Noel Hunt set for medical at Southend United

I would expect to hear news about him signing either tomorrow or Saturday. If there's been nothing done by then you could ascertain that he's not signing for us.

Shame Thompson's name isn't in there.

To be honest I'm not too fussed about Thompson, I'd have Prosser ahead of him if I was Phil Brown. Thompson did improve somewhat throughout the season though so it'll be interesting to see if he can continue to progress.

He was our best center back until he got injured, so surprised you're not that fussed!!

Young as well and was even improving with every game and IMO a far better player than Prosser

Not surprised my post attracts attention as Thompson quite often splits opinion on here. He did improve somewhat in the couple of months before his injury however it depends what you believe are essential attributes for a centre-half. For me he often looked like an accident waiting to happen as his positional sense is poor and he gets turned too easily by competent forwards. As you say he's only young and hopefully will continue to improve, for this reason I'd be happy if he signed on as 4th choice CB in League One. There was a time when seeing Prosser's name on the team-sheet scared the life out of me so there's no reason why Thompson can't continue to progress into a decent centre-half. It's easy to forget though that Prosser has been terribly unlucky in the past two years with two long-term injuries taking him out of the side when he was arguably our most in-form player at those times. The guy is reminiscent of John White in that he very rarely has a bad game and is a highly reliable member of the squad, Adam Barrett-esque too in that he'll throw his body in the way of anything. I'd be far more annoyed if LP was allowed to leave before Thompson, who if what I hear is correct may well be back off to L2 shortly. Good luck to him if that is the case, I'm sure Brown will have someone in mind to replace him if he departs.
