Noel Hunt set for medical at Southend United

Remember your campaign last season. It ended in tears for you at Wembley but for very different reasons than the other 20,000 shrimpers

Brilliant. Just to back up my fickle statement it/she/he tried a couple of grovelling threads gushing praise etc....makes me sick.

Hypothetical question.

If Mooney and Hunt are our regular partnership up front and Mooney scores 12-14 goals and Hunt scores around 6-8. Who would have been a success and who would have been a failure, or both a success or both a failure?

The game isn't just about stats, as much as mrsblue thinks it is. Hunt could score 6 penalties and be useless or score 6 important goals and be a real handful every game with the likes of Wordsworth and Mooney capitalising. Sucess for me will be based on performance

Right I'm off to bed. When I awake I would like to see a gurning Mr hunt on the OS and an Australian batting collapse as the cherry on the cake.

I don't know much about Noel Hunt... certainly not enough to comment on how good or how bad he is.

I do know that Phil Brown has been chasing him for several weeks now, so he clearly sees something he likes and thinks he can fit into a system he wants to play. That's enough for me. I'd rather that than a panic buy who cant do the job required.

Stats are pointless. Lionel Messi has the best scoring record on the planet. Would you play him up front, as a lone striker, and hammer ball into the air for him to head home. No. I doubt it.

Am I the only one that's not really excited abut Hunt ? 80 goals over his entire career and 32 yrs old ? Hmm

People put far too much importance into statistics, especially goals from a striker.

Stats only tell you part of the story. Hunt has only played in the Premiership & Championship over in England. Ipswich fans still wanted Hunt to stay this season and he is still a legend at Reading.

Fitness shouldn't be an issue as been pre-season training with Ipswich Town.

just don't feed it..... if you ignore it, it's existence becomes pointless and it goes away.

This.

It's not the Blue one who is the problem. It's the zoners who keep arguing with her time after time who spoil the threads. I can put one poster on ignore if I so wish, but it doesn't protect me from the threads rendered almost invisible by the thrashing bodies attracted to the chum she keeps throwing into the water.

He can play up front as well as wide- so this and the fact the goals have come in the Premiership & Championship give me no worries that he will score in L1. But more importantly he is more than just a goal scorer and will create much for others.

His age is not a big issue- as has been said before if he was 5 years younger we would have no chance of getting or raising the £1m plus transfer fee. He has been training regularly with Ipswich and I would be pretty sure PB has had a chat with Mick McCarty about fitness levels & what he thinks. As far as I can see Hunt has been a model pro and looks after himself so no reason why we can't get at least a couple of years great service from him.

Also I do think he is the perfect player to go alongside Moody- two clever players who I think will be a real handful- both capable (Moody having already done it) of scoring 20 goals in a season at this level (note I said capable).

What I have been impressed by is PB has stuck to the plan of only buying players who will improve what we have. He has been loyal to the players who got us here- then added Moody, Wordsworth and fingers crossed Noel Hunt - all quality footballers who will improve the side and play good football that we would want to watch. You don't buy this quality and type of players to engage in hoofball (remember that?).

It's a fake wind-up account though right? The same person who was behind Wiggy, surely??

The infamous wiggy hasn't been seen on here since the play-off final. I'm sure he'll be back if we have a poor start, now HE was the ultimate troll (if it's not mrsblue of course, who knows!).

I am honest enough to say that I haven't seen enough of him to have an informed opinion as to whether or not I think he will be a good signing. I suspect many of the posters on here are the same. If/when he signs I will welcome him with open arms and as long as he looks like he wants to win games, then I will be happy.

Just hope we're not expecting him to be some sort of messiah (or Messi). We've built up the excitement levels so often before with the returns of Eastwood & Barnard who we expected to launch us to great things. I'm sure he'd be a decent addition to the squad but he wouldn't even be considering us if there was any significant interest from the Championship so we have to be realistic.
