No rude hand gestures allowed

Ron Manager

Guest
Top marks for jobsworth stewarding at the Hall yesterday. During the second half a steward come over to our block and pulled out one of the season ticket holders for a quiet word. His crime? Apparently he'd been caught on camera (the steward had a photo to prove it) making the universal hand gesture for 'self relief'.

When he came back to his seat to tell us we of course cracked up laughing at how ridiculous it all was. We are behind the goal, a whole pitch length away from any opposing fans so there can't possibly be any incitement happening and quite frankly making those sort of gestures at officials or opposing players is all part of the game. I therefore stood up and made a similair gesture with both hands saying 'What, so we're not allowed to do this anymore?' and was soon joined by the same steward for a talking to.

So Moley, if you're reading this, feel free to PM me and I will give you my season ticket seat. The powers that be can then train their camera on me as I will continue to watch games and show the same passion as always. If the club's success means you feel my seat will be so in demand that you would rather sell it to someone more of the prawn sandwich, sit and clap politely brigade then it's best that you ban me from the ground now so I don't waste my money renewing my season ticket.

Good on yer, Ron. I think you should organise a demonstration where the whole of the South Stand stands up and makes a similar sign. Or better still, the WHOLE GROUND!! And aim it at that jobsworth Jobson in his nice little booth in the corner ... a disgrace ...

The stewards seemed to be out in force yesterday, two young lads were reprimanded(sp) in the West Stand (block x) for gesturing to the away fans.
I suppose they are more 'visible' to the away fans but this hardly is action which incites a riot !
Although, the funniest comment I heard was on my way out when
I overheard this classic
"Shall we go round and see if we can spot some Lincoln?"
The answer "No, I've got to go home as my Dad is giving me a lift to work !"

Indeed! An absolute classic!!

Ah Mr Manager so that's what that was all about.
I sit just left of where all that fun and games was occurring and wondered what was going on.

To be honest Mike if this continues I am serious in my intention to stop going to games. It's all an absolute joke, and if they don't want my three hundred odd quid each summer then fine.

It's the nanny state, Andy. You can't do anything without fear of offending someone somewhere. I know I go on about it, but here in Spain you can just about do whatever you want and there are NO inherent problems, simply because everyone does it.

For instance, the Valencia .vs. Real Madrid game last week : we were sitting in the Gran Col Bajo and when the Real Madrid squad came out to warm-up the crowd went fecking nuts! And I'm talking loud continuous whistling, wild gesticulations, constant shouts of "Puta!*" (accompanied by showers of spit) and it was all very unsettling at first. I mean these guys just HATE Real Madrid with a passion. Hate them. And that was just the warm-up! And it continues for the whole game; ask Harry Barris - he took some footage on his phone when Solari was subbed by Madrid and the place went NUTS! And that's not mentioning the corners of the ground where the Ultra's gather. Stay seated? No chance. They pile into the corners, falling over each other to find space, and then stand up all game, and take turns to lead the whole stadium with songs and chants. Their "leaders" stand on the perimeter wall, facing the crowd and conducting the chanting and singing. Fantastic, and something that Dave Jobson would have no idea how to deal with. And, guess what? There were no problems, no ejections, no threats of expulsion. And after the game, everyone just wandered off into the night. No trouble, no fighting, no pathetic "you must do this to save yourself from the very small chance of actually getting hurt". Absolutely great ... and I love it ...

f**king hell, sounds ace! With the cheap flights you get nowadays I may just fly over there each weekend and become a Valencia fan!

It was ... and we're both hooked!

We might go up for the Valencia v Barcelona game on 24th April and definately going to the Valencia v Osusana game on 29th May (and I think Harry Barris is out again that weekend as well). It's easy to get to (about an hour up the road) and relatively cheap for top class football (€54 for our seats). Fancy a short trip for a game? RyanAir fly into Valencia for 99p (exc taxes).

Er, this season is probably out of the question. I can just imagine that conversation with the missus -

'OK, I know you're 9 months pregnant and the baby is due in 2 days but I'm flying out to Spain to watch a La Liga game.'

Would definitely fancy it next season though, like I said if this stewarding policy continues I will have my weekends free as I won't be going to watch Southend.

Also, in the last couple of games the stewards have been standing up early, about 10 minutes before the final whistle which is extremely annoying. I also say some stewards running through the gates and past the Lincoln coaches yesterday as I was leaving, did anything happen?

You're more than welcome.

Anyway, back to Roots Hall. It sounds like the club have been given a warning if the stewards are starting to react this way for no immediate obvious reason (i.e. real threat of incident).

I agree with Ronald.  If our stewards & the self important halfwits who are in charge of them have got nothing better to do than train hundreds, nay thousands, of pounds worth of equipment on our own fans & go through the farce of showing the a picture of them making a hand gesture which would be invisible to any person, referee, player or fan it was aimed at, then frankly what's the point of showing any passion.

If memory serves me, the gesture was aimed at the Imps no. 23 after what was probably the most obvious dive I've seen since Peter Kay's "Top Bombing" advert.  That the referee & assistant gave him the decision only confirms what a complete pair of prats they were.

Like Ronald if they want a club full of passionless prawn sandwich eaters then they only have to let me know.  I'll be contacting the club to ask if they intend to continue this practice.  I'm sure I'll get the jobsworth rules is rules answer.  Rules we all know are NEVER applied to away fans at Roots Hall as the security staff haven't got the balls to do anything.

I left after the tw*t steward had words with a couple of our other fans who made comments.  On the way out he asked me where I was going, which I have to say was fairly obvious!  When I told him I was leaving he then asked why?  So I said it was to avoid getting into an argument with him during which I would use some long words thet he wouldn't understand!!

I'll keep my £300 + shirt + scarves + hats + occasional box visits + £100's of LDV memorabilia I'll probably buy.  They only have to say the word!  I've argued in the past with one Jobson. I'm too old to argue with a 2nd, who lets face wasn't ever & still isn't fit to wipe Vic's arse, b*stard even that he was.

Exactly. So, as we enter what is potentially another 'golden era', the club begins to aliennate their OWN fans?! Sounds familiar, doesn't it?!

WS

I think someone from Borient has got control!
wink.gif

Nope. It's the same old Jobsworth who has no regard for fans ~ they are an inconvenience to his cushy number ...

WS

I was in the west stand when i noticed somthing goin on in the upper tier! I just see lots of people cheering and waving at the CCTV Camera on the West Stand side. I thought it was quite funny averyone waving

To be honest, what a load of jobsworths the stewards are!
Notice that they dont do anything when away fans stand through the entire match. Too scared aren't they!

I totally agree with you Ron! Dave Jobson and his cronies are the biggest jobsworths ever! Nothing better to do!

Remember when Dave Jobson used to get the hump at one block of fans in the west for standing through the match!

Why do all the stewards stand with ten minutes to go, its a bleeding joke!

Just cause you give a hand signal to a player etc, so what?
You haven't invaded the pitch or anything. I give hand signals etc to players and ref's and will continue to do so!
Its what the game does to you.

UP THE BLUES!

I agree with the stewards on this one. You should never cheer, jeer, gesticulate, breathe, fart or sh*t in the toilets. You must only clap when we score, but not too loudly, and buy our excellent (and not at all overpriced) food and drink. That's the law. People like Ron Manager are ruining it for us fans who just want a quiet snooze and whinge. Some people .....

Are you taking the mick?

Or are you a steward??

Back to school tomorrow for you!

Blimey, sounds like my days are numbered.
No hand signals, whatever next?
Personally, I'll carry on as I always do on a Saturday (if you are lucky) & when Southend don't want my money, I'm sure there'll let me -photo or otherwise.
Cowards really, because, as previously stated, they aint got the bottle to deal with away supporters- can you imagine Jobson attempting to deal with, say Millwall, Cardiff........
nah doubt he would come out his cosy little box in the corner of Roots Hall.
