That said, I don’t think it’s much of a surprise that Ranger’s form on the pitch and apparent behavioural issues off it have pretty much coincided with the much wider slide in form and discontent within the squad.

When we as a club were going great guns last season, so was Ranger. He was a pretty pivotal player for a time and showed a level of performance on numerous occasions that piqued the interest of Championship scouts.

I do also think the circumstances surrounding this season haven’t helped him.

Important point. The notion it is Ranger's fault alone that we are edging ever closer to a relegation is highly spurious.

A scapegoat? He mugs off old ladies ffs! And if we wanted to save funds (which any sensible business should) we wouldn't have signed the players we have over the last 18 months unless they're all playing for nothing.

Should Ranger have had his contract terminated yes, but 100% feel the timing is off with this. Either to trim our large wage bill, buy PB a few more weeks or more has happened. What I am most disappointed with is Phil Brown apparently being able to control Ranger with a pint, has now proven to be nothing more than another ego boosting exercise.

You really think we are working within a sensible budget for wages? I really hope a replacement has been lined up.

Ranger would have been going regardless of the results v Shrews or Wimbledon, even if PB had gone before him. So yes it was 100% the right decision.

It should be obvious to most that there will be some new faces verysoon and a few more may yet depart

Personally I think it was a good thing that we gave him such a lengthy deal. In a redemptive scenario it was good to "show him the love". This can often have the effect of helping an individual break through, a demonstration of commitment and trust which you hope is returned likewise....but sadly not in this case. I dont think anyone from the club made a mistake. The talent was there...but not a lot else. We obviously had the right clauses inserted in the lengthy contract which gave us the opportunity to cut losses if we needed to. A real shame...but we have to move on....and UP.

Yeh it's such a hard life getting up in the morning for football. Can you imagine if one day he has to do a normal mundane job like most people. A child in a man's body.

Look around you, this seems to be a very common character trait these days. Many of the "younger generation" seem to have imbibed an overweening sense of entitlement and "rights with no responsibilities" with their mothers' milk. Ranger is, sadly, far from unique.

Well I hold my hands up and admit that I wanted him to have a chance here and hoped he might come good. I think we afforded him ample opportunity and he has not made the most of it. There is a line and clearly he crossed it once too often. However, with my cynical head on, I do not believe for a second that his departure makes everything ok and the team will play carefree like a bunch of prancing Von Trapp's. His removal from the club is like putting ointment on a grape when you know you've got a bunch of them.

Good riddance, he showed moments of brilliance but he always striked me as someone who simply doesn’t care enough.

This, for me, sums him up. I will always support someone who gives their best. My son was hopeless at maths; I told him to do his best. If he remained hopeless, at least he gave his best. Much prefer that to "I could have been better but couldn't be bothered". After all, we're all useless at many things!

My take on the matter and, just to qualify, I’m purely speculating here and in no way defending him. I thought it was crazy that we offered him such a lengthy deal

A few people have said similar things, but was only a lengthy deal if he behaved according to a set of standards and contributed. This gave us all of the upside and protection should it succeed (it didn't) with limited risk if it didn't. To me then, it was far from a crazy deal. It was actually pretty sensible. It just didn't work out.

Totally agree, it’s a classic case of people looking at the headline and not the detail. Another modern society trait

Nile Ranger has been offered a contract by Billericay Town, but Glenn Tamplin said the deal is dead because Nile didn't have the courtesy to phone him back when meant to.

I popped up to Billericay, I like what thay are doing there. I know people say what they want, but there is some good stuff about Glen Tamplin, people just want to go on about the bad, and when it all goes bang.

Sounds more like Nile didn't phone back at all, to be fair to him he's only just been released from a League 1 club, you'd have to be a very pessimistic player to immediately be interested in dropping down to a 7th tier club.

Of course he doesn't have to sign for Billericay. Like you say it would be dropping down the leagues, and he may have a few options open to him. So he would be weighing them up. The point is you should still phone back, even if it's to say he is looking at all offers on the table. Which might not be many.
