Just got my email about the superbash... anyone applying/hoping to go? I haven't been successful the last 2 years

Would love to go, but haven't even applied so I guess it's pretty doubtful! One thing I miss about living in the US/Canada is the Superbowl party, which pretty much every decent bar will have. Loads of beer promotions, competitions, waitresses dressed in cheerleader outfits - great days. One bar in Canada ran a competition where everyone paid 10 bucks and the money was put in an old holdall with everyone's name in it. Everytime the score changed, a name was drawn and the bag was passed on. You actually held the dough whilst you were in pole position - so they trusted the punters! Near the end of the Ravens/Giants Superbowl, a TD was scored and the name was drawn - the winner was very excited as he thought he was in for about $700, but he forgot the extra point - which drew my name. Lovely stuff!

After years of nothing for the City of Brotherly Love (nothing since the Sixers in 1983), it would be great for them to win two titles in the space of a few months.

As an Eagler fan myself I would love to see it. Although I can see us beating the Cardinals, I can the Ravens and Steelers defence being to strong, although some pressure on Flacco could produce some turnovers

Damn me and my sporting sentimentality :)

I'm normally a sucker for sentimentality US, and if the Rays hadn't made their unlikely run I would have no problem celebrating a Phillies world series. I just can't be liking any other NFC East team in the NFL, though I would back Philly over Dall-*** through gritted teeth.

aye, i'd be inclined to make the Steelers favourites at this stage. If they do win it, I'll at least take comfort from that fact that they're not the Ravens.

From ESPN: Why Eli Manning is like Daniel-San

So all wasn't lost. I spent the next hour trying to find similarities between Eli and Daniel-San, ultimately coming up with seven: Both wanted to live in Jersey over California; both possess the hard-to-explain ability to tick people off (even complete strangers); both won championships as huge underdogs that, in retrospect, make absolutely no sense whatsoever; both received serious officiating help during those titles (Eli for the various holding infractions during the Helmet Catch that weren't called, Daniel-San for winning the All-Valley Karate title on an illegal kick to the face); both have terrible body language when things are going badly for them (to the point that you lose all hope pretty much immediately); both had signature moments that were surprisingly similar both in stature and surprise (the Helmet Catch and the Crane Kick); and both eventually found forbidden love with a 65-year-old Japanese war veteran. Oh wait, that was just Daniel-San. Sorry, Eli.

Sorry about this, but im watching this via nfl.com which only tells you whats going on. How can you kick off for minus 33 yards?

Cardinals in the Superbowl.... crap. well done to the Eagles for a pretty immense 2nd half fightback, at least.

Wow, what a game. McNabb displayed balls of steel to bring his team back in the second half, I couldn't see the Cards getting the lead back. Maybe they can give the Steelers/Ravens a game in the big one. If it's half as good as this was, we'll be lucky indeed.
