New SUFC Song

Totally agree,Biffo in talking sense shocker:eek:

Ok, But it just seems to be over complicating where one should be simplifing. Print the original first verse and chorus and bobs your uncle! Everyone of the same hymn sheet!

Guys......I am starting to air towards the original version for a lot of the reasons mentioned, but if this is the song that is chosen then it has to be really pushed, in the programme, hand outs, tanoys, on the OS on here (SZ).

Really really pushed by all concerned

The Club Anthem question has been put on SOL as well as SZ, I will have a chat with the AAS guys to see if they can help too..

It will shortly be on the OS and arriving in your mailboxes too..

When a winner is found, there will be songsheets handed out, printed in the programme, on the OS, SZ, SOL, Newspapers etc etc..

My choice would be Status Quo 'Rocking All Over The World' as played at the Mill Stad when we beat Lincoln. I would change the 'Rocking' to 'Shrimping All Over The World'. That would be nice & simple only a few words to remember & as with most Quo records the words are repeated many times!

I doubt the club would like it as it mentions 'Shrimpers' & you can't change any of the lyrics?

To be honest despite all your efforts I can't see any song catching on at Southend. We can't even chant the same chant at the same time. When we are playing well there can be 5 different songs going at once all around the ground and none of them very loud either (although it has got better over the past few games).

So the full edited version of BOTW is below..

When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
WE will dry them all

WE'RE on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down..

Sail on SOUTHEND,
Sail on by
OUR time has come to shine
And All OUR dreams are on their way

See how they shiiiiiiiinnnnne
If you need a friend
WE'RE sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
WE will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
WE will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
WE will ease your miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnd

Whilst I think Alison Moyet's "Blue" should be played as a matter of course at every home game, I think this edited version of BOTW is spot on for an anthem. Enough of us there would be able to carry the tune and the majority of the words, and with handouts the younger fans (and us) will pick up the changes. For me there's no point if it's not adapted to be relevant.

I agree 100% that "Blue" should be played at every home game ...great song...but as an anthem that everybody knows the words to .. from those chosen so far BOTW gets my vote ....:)

I love BOTW .. and it is truly anthemic .. but will it catch on ?? i have my doubts tbh ... its nigh on impossible to get the Family Enclosure to sing "Blue Army" let alone something like this

I don't think these songs will ever catch on if fans are told "this is your new anthem". I still believe we could have adopted "I'm a Believer" but cringed so hard when Brian came out onto the pitch and announced it as he did with the suggestion that everyone join in.

I love BOTW and think it has the ingredients to become a club anthem but I think the way to approach it is just to play it just before the teams come out every week for the rest of the season and beyond. After a few weeks maybe an orchastrated effort to join in with the last two verses (TBV should be able to make a good start, hopefully others will join in).

But please no mention of this from the club, let it appear as if the song is being adopted by the fans themselves, not foisted on them by the management of the club.

Oh and no change of words; listen to YNWA, Goodnight Irene, or Delilah, or any of the real anthems.

Good shout on the regular playing of Blue; perhaps this should be played as an overture to BOTW every week too.

OMG...........that is as close to perfect as you can get.....I closed my eyes and pictured it ringing out around the whole of Roots Hall with everyone’s Scarves raised aloft.....

I can honestly say that put goose bumps on the back of my neck.

And i agree....don’t change a single word from the original

I have to agree it, i think it may have potential

The trouble with 'blue' is that, despite the reference to the club, it just isnt a very good song. Of course, in my humble opinion only.

How about that..

Two verses..

The words are meaningful

Fooking pefect

Gets my full backing, unless something better can be found..

I'm sitting at my desk at work having a sneaky peak at the Zone and have now got goose bumps singing that in my head.

Spot on Smiffy - that's got my vote.
