Nathan Bishop

He joins up with Mansfield nearer the start of the season. United need the numbers in for training camps whilst a lot of the squad are still on their holidays.
Seems a bit odd that they'd do a training camp whilst half the squad is on holiday, is it just to give the non-internationals a run out?

More accurately it's to give the internationals a bit of a rest. It wasn't just the Euros this summer, it was also the Copa America.

Been playing constantly for Mansfield. The fans seem to like him (given their ridiculously dodgy keepers over the past years this is hardly surprising) but the stats don't show him to be setting the league on fire with his performances. Ross Doohan, for example, who is on loan from Celtic to Tranmere, has been putting in much better performances at a similar age in the division.

My friend who is a Mansfield fan raves about him, says he’s top quality and will no doubt have a good career ahead of him.

This from the Beeb's report of last night's Mansfield game with Exeter City, with an assist for their winner from McLaughlin as well...and Dieng on the receiving end, who also lasted 90 minutes:

Mansfield climbed into the top three after a narrow League Two victory at home to Exeter.

Farrend Rawson and Matty Longstaff bagged the goals as the Stags extended their unbeaten league run to 14 matches.
But they had goalkeeper Nathan Bishop to thank after his brilliant double save kept them ahead when leading 1-0.

Longstaff was unable to beat Cam Dawson from distance after 15 minutes, before Bishop kept out Kieran Phillips with a good reaction save.

Josh Coley failed to find the target for the Grecians, before Ryan Stirk fluffed a first-time volley.

Rawson put Mansfield ahead after 34 minutes with a close-range finish from Longstaff's cross.

Bishop tipped away a dangerous Jake Caprice shot before Coley drilled the ball wide of the post.

The Stags goalkeeper produced a stunning low reflex save from Coley before keeping out the rebound with his feet.

Longstaff wrapped up the win with a cool finish from Stephen McLaughlin's cross after 67 minutes.

Matt Jay pulled a consolation goal back in the fifth minute of stoppage time but the hosts held on for maximum points.

Seems abit unbalanced. 4 players covering 1 position and 27 covering the other 10.

On the bench for Utd this afternoon
Not there for any serious consideration—proven Premier keeper Dubravka was there too and I think Tom Heaton is 3rd choice, there’s probably others too.
And just to be clear: this “Utd” is referring to Manure, not Peterborough,Scunthorpe,WHU or the very best United.

Was Oxley there or was he on Harrogate’s bench? 🤫

I doubt very much whether Ox will make it to either the Premiership or the Championship level now but League One clubs will be very interested once he regains full fitness.

On the bench for United this aftermoon at Fulham. 8 u-boats of which 2 are keepers.

The 2nd choice keeper, Butland, was warming up when De Gea took a knock.
Bishop got onto the bench to fill a space at the very last minute, when Eriksen got promoted in place of injured Sabitzer.
The fact that they keep him around obviously means that they rate him. He could’ve quite easily gone out on another loan but they’ve decided to keep him there. He may not have been the 2nd choice but being part of that matchday squad will help prepare him when his times comes.

He had an excellent season with Mansfield last season and they really rated him. They wanted him back for this season but were told higher clubs were after him and United wanted to keep him around the squad.

Ben Foster didn’t play his first game for United until he was 25. Yes he didn’t play too many games for them but if Bishop gets that opportunity like he has with us and Mansfield I expect he will take it and do everything he can go keep it.
