Nathan Bishop

Whilst the experience of training with De Gea and Henderson is invaluable he never seems to play for the u23s, are the u23s and the first team in separate Covid bubbles?

He has played for them in the EFL Trophy but doesn't seem to be playing many in the PL2. Maybe they think he's too good for that, I know it looked when he signed his contract extension like he would go out on loan but it didn't happen.

In case the sub keeper gets sent off.
Exactly. We've seen it before that a keeper could get a nasty injury early on and then a nervous sub keeper could haul down a striker and get sent off. Harder now given the change in the laws about denying a goal-scoring opportunity.

I imagine part of it is that Bishop was registered as the 4th keeper in the Europa League squad, so it is probably easier to have him fill out the subs bench than draft someone up from the Under 23s which can cause challenges with COVID bubbles. Bishop is training and travelling with the first team (which is a fantastic opportunity for him), so he's already familiar with things that mean he should be comfortable if the unlikely but not impossible situation comes up where he needs to play.

Great for him. I'd really like to know if we get any extra money for appearances and a percentage of any sell on.

The Mirror saying United want rid of De Gea, Romero, Grant and Perreira this summer, could mean a big step up for Bishop.

If they do all go I suspect they'll bring in someone with experience to be Henderson's backup since a club like United isn't going to want their second choice keeper to be someone that's never played a premier league match but I could see Nathan getting a few outings as a cup keeper if it happens.

Nathan ought to be moving up the route of Manure gks after tonight's euro cup final pen fest.
De Gea looked hopeless at saving the pens, and then he had his own penalty saved and Manure win nothing again.

Pretty much every penalty Villarreal took was in the corner, not much De Gea could have done against those. We could do with asking them to give our players some pointers for next season.
Two were straight down the middle, De Gea moved early on every one, he never looked confident.
Ole should have subbed him off and got Henderson? On at the end of extra time, hindsight is great!

Have u ever been in a euro final and had the pleasure of saving a penalty ?????

Doesn't matter whether he has or hasn't. Simple observation should tell you that David De Gea's goalkeeping technique when facing penalties is complete and utter trash. He makes his move far too early and watches as the ball flies past him in the other direction. He makes it so easy for the penalty taker and should be standing his ground more. I said to my other half before the shootout last night that I couldn't believe Solskjaer didn't do a Luggy and sub Henderson on, although it appears he's admitted that he thought about it. The stats told the story beforehand - no save in 36 penalties faced since 2016 for De Gea.......8 out of 19 saved by Henderson in his career so far.

Drat and darn it all Holmes!
Your incisive discussion, absolute observations and sharp questioning is worthy of the best Oxford Speakers Union discussion groups.
You focus straight in on the flaws in my posting and blew huge holes in it all.
I am forever agog at your wit and sagacity.
Unworthy of watching penalties, please place me on the "ignore" list of posters so I do no offend you further.:Takethat:
