Smith is the main reason we are going to Wembley on Sunday, his performance v Orient was outstanding, ok there are a few things of his game that need work, but shot stopping is awesome

If we did have the perfect keeper as some people wish on here, ask yourself this..................would he be playing League 2????

Sorry can't agree. Football is a team game, they all win or lose together!

Smith is a good league 2 keeper,Yes he makes the odd error but if he never he would certainly be playing at a higher level.

I agree with this. I've had my head in my hands at times with him this season but he has had some games where he has been absolutely exceptional.

Incidentally I saw my Orient-supporting cousin at the weekend for the first time since we got to the final and his viewpoint was Smith's first leg display was the difference between the two sides.

I wonder if PB has explained that that is what he expects of his 'keepers, or whether it was something that came up when the players had their "clear the air" talks after the last home game. Either way, it was very noticable that Smith came and claimed things, and looked confident doing so.

Thought this too, looked a lot more comfortable and certainly came for much more.

Exactly my thoughts - his best all-round performance for ages. Claimed things, saved a penalty, not at fault for their goal I didn't think - good game.

Also noticable that he went out and clapped the fans at the end with Sean and Cresswell.

To be fair I reckon that PB had a word and said just get on with clapping the fans - costs nothing and will help to erase some of the negativity surrounding him. Good advice if so.

if you want to win football games. Well discussed on here but as you would have seen yesterday, Smith completely bottled the cross for the second goal costing us yet again.
Can't believe he didn't cut that one out as he had first shot at it but refused yet again. Please don't play him again as a handicap of one goal a game is not ideal.
Give it a rest......................We all now know it's a big weakness. Possibly a mental issue rather than a physical one. Probably needs a Shrink !

I thought Smith's kicking was excellent Monday. It might be lost in amongst his penalty heroics and earning us an undeserved point at the death with a good save, but he was regularly pinning Fleetwood back on the edge of their own penalty area. Their centre halves were "winning" the headers on the edge of their D and the ball was going up in the air and only about 5 yards forward and dropping into a great area for us.

Unfortunately our attackers did nothing with it until BBBC belatedly entered the fray.

Considering the windy conditions Smith kicked well. My only criticism of his kicking yesterday is when the ball is passed back to him he takes a wild lash at it rather than putting his foot on it. He has time to compose himself, but it's like he panics and just swings a big old boot at it.

i agree he does boot it first time when sometimes he has time to take a touch oh well tho alot of keepers do that tis frustratin tho.

Wiggy davewebbsbrain and many others. With a new manager come along a lot of changes, they will have their own back room staff, coaches and players they have known from the past, so you could very easily have big changes in the team. Not always for the best. It won't do you any good week after week slaughtering the same player. Because they are most likely to be PB mate.

My first words on this subject and i listern to davewebbsbrain comments every game in my right ear.
So after reading the coments over the months will finally add my views
We have two good keepers at Div 2 level.
Bentley will be very good, and Smith is very good but as we all know lacks confidence, and does dither sometimes coming off his line.
We are lucky too have both and Smith does not deserve the unfair comments he gets.
First thoughts from Fleetwood game has PB had a word of encouragment to install confirdence and make him fell loved which semmed to inspire him. I think he deserves to be keeper on Sunday. He is good at this level. Bentleys time will come.
Smith is just the better all round keeper at this time!!
Smith divides opnion more than anyone and in the over 40 year's supporting SUFC we have always had a scapgoat for anything that goes wrong, Smith is that this season.
We will always have our favourites. It will never change, but lets get behind whoever is in goal sunday and not critisize who ever is

What about Straker :winking:

Ban the foul mouthed General......deleting his juvenile threads is no good!

Oh dear....

Wiggy, how you have escaped being banned over the years for being the obvious Troll that you are I have no idea, but for you to call for others to be banned is rich indeed.

I cannot understand this. I've had that fool Wiggy on ignore for years and suggest everybody else does. Every time I read one of his stupid posts I lost 10 seconds of my life. it's just not worth it people.

I think it was the blatant swerve of the swear filter that annoyed Wiggy. He/she has some odd views but I don't recall Wiggy swearing at others. If Kev had called me that I'd have hunted him down

He did call Wiggy (who is a woman for those not in the know) a name and deservedly it was removed.

Many may not agree with Wiggy but she is entitled to voice an opinion as others are entitled to disagree with it, but lets not start calling each other names. You bunch of ********.

I can only apologise to the SZ Mods for that ... But i was slighty miffed at Wiggy's "I didnt go Monday (in a shrugging shoulders manner)" and thus he gets no credit. How do we know she ever goes?! Once again, sorry for my nifty technique ...

Again people questioning Smith when will this guy ever get a break, maybe once the playoffs are mathematically out of reach we should play Bentley but until then Smith has the experience and has a strong back 4 back infront of him now so lets get behind him
