Absolutely this. The guy behind me in the NB insisted he was crap all afternoon stating that he could have saved the penalty and that he was 'massively at fault for the goal', views which to be fair he did air to Smith himself.

I thought that was where the "real" fans went who got behind the team. Lucky Smith did not do a Cantona on him.

So maybe the answer is clear and Mr Brown ought to approach Wiggy for "motivational" team talks before matches then?!

Am I missing something here ? I'm not a big fan of Smith, but didn't he save a penalty today and pull off a top save at the end ?

Problem with Smith is he has good games and bad games, theres a lot of inconsistency. (Saving penalties is pretty low down on priority keeping skills). Add to that the team isnt playing well and the easiest target is the keeper. When we got promoted from league one Flavs was many fans player of the year, yet the next season we were relegated and many blamed him....

Bentley gets put forward simply because he is the alternative, not necessarily because he is better in my opinion. Two managers have had both keepers and both have picked Smith as their first choice (so far anyway). If Bentley really was heads and shoulders above he would be starting because he was better, not just because some fans want someone other than Smith.

I appreciate you are never wrong, always negative and will never answer a direct question and are personal in your criticism but what did you think of Smith today Wiggy.

I've got you on Rose Tinted ignore and i didn't go to the shambles today so can't comment!

Keepers are a easy target heroes one game slated the next its the worse position to play a striker misses a chance a midfielder gives ball away and a defender loses a header all errors a keeper drop a cross catastrophe.

Every keeper in this division has a weakness , reading the match threads throughout the year i think we have probably the best keeper in league 2 , Bentleys time will come also Chambers,Think we are lucky to have two potentially up and coming youngsters on our books , dont know for how much longer though.

I dont have anything against Smith but theres no way on earth thats true.

Sturrock has dropped him already this season, if he was the best keeper in the league that wouldnt have happened.

Did anyone notice how similar our goal was to the one Smith was blamed for against Bradford?

At least Smith was close to reaching the ball. The Fleetwood keeper was nowhere near Corr when he headed in.

Without Smith, we would have lost yesterday. But the Smith haters won't remember this game, or the string of games mid season when his form was top draw.

Smith was inspired yesterday . With a lesser goalie we would have lost 3-1 . Like it or not , He IS our number 1 , so lets get right behind him---- he might well prove to our Wembley hero !

Yes Sturrock did replace Smith, didn't he want to sharpen the team up. We lost both games.
Smith had a great game yesterday, with out him l am sure we would have lost. But the Wiggy's of the world would have loved that. GOOD LUCK SMITH.

Smith is the main reason we are going to Wembley on Sunday, his performance v Orient was outstanding, ok there are a few things of his game that need work, but shot stopping is awesome

If we did have the perfect keeper as some people wish on here, ask yourself this..................would he be playing League 2????

Smith is a good league 2 keeper,Yes he makes the odd error but if he never he would certainly be playing at a higher level.

Notice Wiggy's gone back in his box, it seems to be a common theme, have a dig, don't go to the game, Smith keeps us in it, all quiet on the Wiggy front, you're a disgrace but hey .....no surprise there eh

Or the fact that he came for, and claimed a number of balls into the area. I wonder if PB has explained that that is what he expects of his 'keepers, or whether it was something that came up when the players had their "clear the air" talks after the last home game. Either way, it was very noticable that Smith came and claimed things, and looked confident doing so.

As an aside, when he made that great save in injury time someone close to me said (tongue in cheek) that he should have caught it, which made us all laugh.

Thing is, Smith plays for us for a reason. If he were really good, he'd be somewhere up the chain. For a fourth tier keeper he isn't bad. Better than most in the division, and certainly better than Morris. Maybe we got spoiled with a string of decentish keepers over recent years, and of course Mr Daniels, who was clearly way, way better than the level we saw him at.
