Not sure how much impact Tomlin coming back will have he has been out for quite a while and it could take him a number of games to get back to the form he was showing before his injury. Don't think the main problem is upfront anyway, conceding silly goals has and the midfield has looked weak recently.

Agree that Im not confident Tomlin will make a massive impact, he had a great spell and two dry ones. No guarantee he will hit the ground running.

As for upfront, we are struggling to score goals in the league, we have only scored twice on one occassion since Christmas. Thats not neccessarily a striker issue though if the midfield arent creating much.

Better than Grant for me, not that tendency to roll around the floor Granty had!

Curse you Granty and your maintain possession while winning free kicks in important areas mentality!

:whistling:

Otherwise, I agree with you.

Great news on the Mkandawire situation - could be the catalyst for a turn around in our fortunes.

What I don't understand is why we waited til after the Rotherham game to tie this up? Rotherham really was a must win game and we're now well off the pace. This rumour was leaked last week and bearing in mind all parties have done business on the same player before you'd think the loan could have been sorted in time for last Saturday.

I saw Sturrock mention that any loan signings he made would have to be timed correctly as to be available when needed but if Tam can't stay til the end of the season then does it really matter?

Because we can only have him a month and want him for the final. (plus he doesnt appear to actually be fit)

..and also hope for a permanent move in the summer, or is that too much to hope for ?

Rumours have previously done the rounds that he has already tied up a potential move to a League 1 Club pushing for the Championship...my guess was Brentford.

Great news... BUT... I think that one of the biggest effects that Laird and Mkandawire had on the team was to provide the central stability that allowed Timlin to play to his best and that is what we will still be missing.

Also Tomlin and Assombalongas incessant pressing and closing down of ndefenders, hurrying them into mistakes and stopping them play. Britt hasn't looked the same player without Tomlin and neither Reeves, Mayor, Lund, Woodyard or Leonard will perform the Timlin role. Maybe Lund, I don't know enough about him.

I think the point here is that we had a really good blend and until all the elements of that blend are back, we may struggle to recreate the form we had, which was awesome. Obviously we won't get all elements back this season and possibly never. But here's hoping that it gives us enough.

The main problem has definitely been central midfield (where we are too lightweight) and defence. Tam will help both of these issues, not only in midfield but also his ability to help protect the back 4 which has been sorely missing since his departure. If Laird too isn't far away it may not yet be too late to gatecrash the play-offs. I have my doubts but far stranger things have happened.

Good news if he comes back as he will be better option than others we have to hold the centre of midfield, but is that a position that should be first to address from PS? Laird & Timlin are out and I feel we need someone who has more ability on the ball in there than another holding player. IMO, thats where we're missing something and should be a priority for Sturrock.

Mkindawire back would mean he will hold with who in front of him? Lund? Spillane? Woody? The creative problem is still going to be there, isn't it?

What about Reeves?

Reeves has a touch of class and good ball control ,essential for a playmaker .Also vision .Wouldnt hurt to try him there, also he is a tireless worker, finds space, give him a go,may surprise everyone.

Mkandawire is clearly on a different level to anyone we have or could expect to have. Dont see any reason not to be bringing him back.

Laird will hopefully be back soon too.

I was watching different games to you then mate, Grant broke up play and drew fouls, I wouldn't class his drawing fouls as flair.

Tam is better than Grant, I'd agree.

I thought he was a flair player, he did break up play and stuff, but I thought it was exciting when he used to break away with the ball.

Id class a flair player as someone who can beat players, play great passes, score long range goals and be creative etc.

Grant was a good player but I wouldnt class him as a creative or flair player.

And generally don't track back or tackle, and have a tendency to drift in and out of games.

Flair player is generally used as a term of excuse for a very skilfull player who tends to underachieve.
