Football supporters can be a precious bunch. Alright for you to give the player a coating but as soon as he has a pop back you get up in arms over it

While I agree with your point, I also agree with JM, responding with a C U next tuesday after being called a muppet is OTT.

Can't get my head around people abusing Timlin in the south upper tonight.

Granted he was was having an absolute mare first half, but this is a player who is being played out of position and is one of the most professional players we've got in the squad.

Great pro yes, no doubt. Regardless of what position he plays he just isn't good enough. Gives the ball away countless times, dives in, hoof ball. League 1 and maybe even league 2 is too good for him IMO.

Just read this whole thread and some many people have mentioned about him playing out of position. That doesn't matter, this wasn't his first shocker of the season, he's had plenty. That includes games that he has played in the middle.

Its a shame because you don't get too many players like him who will put his body on the line for a win but like I have said he struggles to pass simple balls, dives in, gives away countless free kicks, makes decisions that puts us in danger (chest back to Oxley in the 2nd half). I know he is not a left back but he's not a good enough midfielder either. I was so bored watching he play hoof ball last night and all season to be honest. YES he did play an important part in the goal and that's great and well done to him. BUT his general game is poor and he just isn't good enough. We can't keep a player in the team just because of what he has done in the past, I'm sure he wouldn't want that either.

Yes he deserves credit when he makes a pass that leads to a goal. Conversely, he has to accept criticism when he keeps jumping in, giving away free kicks in dangerous positions rather than jockeying his man
So he deserves credit , but you are not going to give it, or give it through gritted teeth. Some people have an agenda when it comes to certain players whether consciously or subconsciously. In match reports he gets battered for his passing so I counted his passing , 18 passes15 got to the intended sufc player, three didn't and off those was inches away from creating a certain goal. On to the natch reports and people still called out his passing as not getting to an sufc playerdespite the FACT than only three passes didn't! Last night there were "hoofs" from four Sufc players in the space of 20 seconds. Only one players clearance was met by " hood" from the crowd. It's like some people believe timlin is making mistakes deliberately, someone noted earlier that he "bottled" one tackle , he certainly pulled out and you can guess that was all to do with his (poor) decision making and arguably the abuse he was apparently getting. Maybe without the abuse he would have made that tackle?

You must have been watching another game with those passing stats buddy because I saw him give the ball away god knows how many times including a large amount of hopeful hoof balls.

I was sitting from far from the so called "pulling out of a tackle". Timlin had been put in a horrible situation and I can't recall the other player close in. However, for a split second they left it for each other. Had Timlin then gone for the tackle it was a red card waiting to happen.

I really can't understand what Timlin has done wrong. Nobody is perfect, if he was he wouldn't be playing for us. He always gives of his best and that is all I ever ask of any player. Just seems certain elements have to moan and abuse a player or players each season. This year it is Timlin, Hendrie and Robinson. Last year it was Mooney. Previous years the victims have included John White, really quite pathetic.

Apologies I was very unclear, I was referring to the charlton game ( see my posts on the charlton match thread, and match report thread).

No idea where you got that from, putting words in someones mouth is a dangerous game.

Was a good pass, I've said he deserves credit and I didn't say it through gritted teeth either. We all want to win games, and those involved in goals always deserve credit.

My point was that players have to accept both sides of the coin, if they keep jumping in, like Timlin did last night, they will get criticized. I don't buy into he was playing out of position. He's a pro and playing out of position won't make him jump in. It's the way Timlin is and he needs to be cleverer in situations like that.

Incidentally, watching Timlin's pass again, he was quite far up field and on the right side of the pitch. Either the goal came after a corner and Timlin was still up after it, or he was terribly out of position. Either way, good pass equaled a good bit of skill from Demi and a bit of luck gave us a goal and the win....Hurrah all round

You didn't actually give him credit, you said he deserved credit- it's not the same thing, and even then you are only doing it because I brought it up. And then the iceing on the cake- you say he was out of position when he provided the pass- it's smith saving with the wrong hand all over again.

You say some on here have an agenda with players. I say some have an agenda with other posters. You are making yourself look a bit silly now so probably best you stop eh

Agreed, he made a couple of mistakes on Tuesday and one was lucky not to lead to a goal but ****ing hell he's not the only one!

Sometimes these types of thread get a little mixed up along the way.
Personally I never abuse any of our players as 1) I assume ( hopefully rightly ) that they are doing their best and 2) there is no discernible benefit to the team ( the player is hardly likely to gain in confidence).

But equally , it is ok to state and debate that a player 'had a stinker'.
There's no point in saying 'he's been a loyal player' etc , a bad performance is simply that and we don't need to hide it on here.

As I said earlier, and on the night , my only gripe is that we had two full backs on the bench , one of whom as arguably been our best defender this season , yet we played a midfielder at left back.

It's a necessary policy with the injuries we had , but not now IMO

It's because football is organized chaos watched and debated upon by perfectionists!

This is a forum for Southend fans mainly. I think it's fair to discuss the performances of players whether that be good or bad. It's normally the players that have been really good, or really bad that will get most comments. We all want our team to win and play well, and we have opinions about who should be in or out of the starting Eleven. But verbally abusing players during a game is something I don't like. I tend to swear to myself(FFS being my latest trend) if a player keeps messing up, but I would never shout down to a player like the guy in the South Upper did with Tims.

Let's face it we all know that any real supporter of our great club would never verbally abuse one of our own players ... its obvious even to the numbskulled gobby cretins that the only outcome is to shatter the players confidence , not just of the targeted player but any of his team mates who hears the abuse. Therefore our team plays poorly , we risk getting a worse result , everyone 's evening is spoilt.

Its blatant that these total fools are so stupid they dont understand what they are doing. They are probably hen pecked at home and have tiny tiny genitalia and feel the only way they can escape their sad little pathetic home lives is to shout their mouths off .

You know who you are , and you should realise no one thinks you are funny , no one enjoys hearing your drivel and pretty much everyone around you thinks you a complete numpty. So if you cant shut your mouth , stay away or go and watch another team to abuse.

"Empty vessels make most noise" is such a true phrase - and is sadly proven at most grounds week in week out

Lets get behind all our players this Saturday and every match , we need to raise the roof + make fortress Roots Hall a hostile place for opposition players rather than our men in blue.

I am simply picking up on your comments, if you can't / won't understand why I interpret your comments the way of have the. . I wonder if hat your wife would say if ,having served up dinner you said "what does she want a medal' , when it was pointed out that some it was good you replied that you could see why others might think that, you then finally agree it was nice, but have to add that she put your plate on in he wrong side of your he table .

Ill stop when I want thanks, my agenda runs against dumb posts not posters thanks

You interpret my comments any way you want pal, no skin off my nose. Ignore everything I've said praising the players, Timlin or otherwise and just pick out what you like, use it out of context. For instance when I mentioned Timlin may have been out of position, if it wasn't the second wave after a corner, rather than use it in context and also mention the fact it could have been after a corner and that I mentioned it was a great pass to Demi. Agenda, yes. Against dumb posters, that's your opinion and you are within your rights to suggest I'm dumb, but in reality, those that just use what they need out of context to support their agenda seems to be the dumb one
