Thought Timlin did OK 2nd half, but my bigger concern is Anton, he looks absolutely shot to bits. Whats happened to that solid player we witnessed last season?

I don't know what was said, but no need to abuse a player especially at home. He's not a left back in a million years and he had a dreadful first half last night, but whoever was guilty of this rant was out of order and I hope they were told so!

E

Hopefully that he needs to raise his game to get his shirt back! Truth is he lost it because his performances were not good enough and frankly if he can't win it back from a midfielder cum defender before Xmas he won't have a prayer when Coker is back. I actually expect White to start at LB on Saturday if he is fit.

If Hendrie put in that performance Timlin did, there would be uproar and people calling for him to never play for us again!!

Just because he had an OK second half, does not excuse the mistakes he made in the first (and the second half wasn't that great - people seem to have forgotten his pathetic chest back to Oxley, which nearly cost us a goal, if it hadn't been for an excellent save).

Pathetic answer,No he doesn't need a medal, but is it too much to ask to credit someone when they are directly involved and in us scoring . In your case the asnswer is clearly yes , it's too much too ask

Yes he deserves credit when he makes a pass that leads to a goal. Conversely, he has to accept criticism when he keeps jumping in, giving away free kicks in dangerous positions rather than jockeying his man

Hendrie would be better !! Timlin gives to many free kicks away, what must hendrie think

That he has had a poor start to his spell at Southend - just like he did at Blackburn -and must work hard and listen to the coaches in order to do better.

Timms has worked hard for the cause since signing for us. I would certainly not abuse him or any of our players - unless there was a clear lack of effort.
If a player is giving 100% but it is not going well - then he deserves plenty of shouts!! Of encouragement.
That said - a senior pro should shrug off any abuse from idiots. There is no place for arguing with your own supporters.

from what I understand, and this is third hand from a friend who was in the south Upper Middle section. a fan told him to 'Stay on his feet' I'm sure it was more like .... 'timlin stay on ya fekin feet' however I'm not sure anyone was abusing him? as in 'your sht get off the pitch you little plastic mick'.... simply to stay on your feet was the request

Good point, Kev.

Is this a modern thing, do you think. Where supporters are brought up on a diet of analysis and all think we are experts.

Back in the day, I can't remember going to Roots Hall and hearing the North Bank slagging our own players off, for example. We used to reserve that for the ref or the oppo goalkeeper!

Timlin was not at his best and the reaction at first was ok, but he kept going back to it , and that's when he was wrong, as a senior pro , it's not very ,good to offer to " see him after you ****"

Found the first Timlin remark back to the fan hilarious but it did really seemed to rile him, he wouldn't let it go and it contributed to having a poor first half. Direct example of why you should never criticise your own team. Sad times that these days one can sit in the South Upper and hear fans having a go at their own players and yet Lyle Taylor with a haircut that made him look like Vera Duckworth can escape any kind of abuse. Terrible times.

Get behind your own, give the opposition hell.

Michael Timlin, club legend, deserves respect for the job he has done for the club over a number of years. He has earned that right.

However, his powers are waning, and he is probably now playing at his very limit. And out of position.

You cannot ever question his commitment to the cause, his effort or his workrate. BUT... in a team that is eyeing getting out of this league, when all fully fit, he struggles to get in and is a weaker link.

But if people want to abuse our own players, regardless of who they are, who am I to tell you you're a moron and you should shave your face with a cheese grater.

Yeah he's having a bit of a torrid time but he's not a left back. There was one instance last night though that really surprised me about him when the ball broke loose roughly half way up the pitch and he totally bottled the 50/50. If there's one man I'm backing in our squad to go through that challenge it's him

I can't ever slag someone off who wanted to play on for us when his forehead was hanging off and then did play just 3/4 days later

I can remember Roy McDonough, Barry Silkman, Steve Hatter plus others getting plenty of abuse back in the 80's. I wasn't going in the 70's but I'm sure it must have been going on then as well?

Yes I agree Timlin is no full back So when Cocker is fit again .Where does timlin fit in .Mid field is pretty much set at the mo .And long may that continue .

Don't forget, Tims played left-back throughout that tremendous run of results from November through to March.

Similar to what I heard on the left side of the South Upper. It was something like "stay on your feet you muppet". Timlin's reply was far worse to be fair, I think it was something along the lines of "I'll see you outside you c***."

Unless I missed some actual abuse, all that happened was Timlin was having a mare making elementary mistakes, a fan or two told him so and he got properly ****ed off.

The most remarkable thing is that Timlin didn't forget about it and kept having a pop throughout the game.

I'm a big fan of Timlin's, he has played a big part in our rise from lower league two, and I love how he plays with his heart on the sleeve. This is just a side effect of that. Not the wisest move with the family stand right below though.

didnt hear what was said from upstairs , as I sit in south lower and your ''along the lines'' is very close to fact ... luckily the kids were missing last night , otherwise it would have been very wrong ,

If that is how he responded to that sort of comment thats pretty stupid.

I never quite get why people get outraged when players give it back to supporters when getting abused, but if he wasnt actually getting much thats over the top.

Firstly Timlin took an absolute crunching in the first few mins and for a while after that he looked nervous going in to a tackle however as has been mentioned numerous times on here he is playing out of position. It’s hard enough doing that in Sunday league football.

Secondly why do fans get moody when a player says something back to them. Rather than get on their cases actually support them and don’t dish it out if you can’t take it!

Football supporters can be a precious bunch. Alright for you to give the player a coating but as soon as he has a pop back you get up in arms over it
