I think OBL was asking for a few ideas to improve MTB, I enjoy an hour or so but think it could be better for little cost and get us closer as a club. I think the main issue is the main pitch isn't always in use and it can seem like nothing is going on.

1. Get some of the legends in the signing tent or to walk the queue.
2. Get some of the local acts that come on the pitch at half time during the season to do a turn.
3. Cheerleaders / local dance troops
4. Mascot race (good opportunity for sponsors)
5. A few player / legends interviews over the PA system
6. Maybe a few more local companies could attend selling food & drink (a bit like a farmers market) - a bit left field but could earn the club a few quid & bring in more new fans?
7. Kids races / games with a legends
8. Local Brewery tent
9. More food stalls
10. More local charities involved / stalls.
11. Face painting
12. Phil Brown tanning tent :winking:
13. Let some southend area local non league sides have a tent / table so they can sell scarfs etc.

Thanks for those, we did discuss some of them, including having a refreshment stall of some kind on the far side of the pitch, we particularly wanted to find one of those mobile "coffee cars" for this but couldn't find anyone interested.

I think you (and Tinks) make some fair points, some that, indeed, we've made from our own observations. I've copied and pasted what you said so I've got it for next year. I'd love to see Crouch Vale Brewery, for instance, there but I think there are issues with the licensing. I had expected face painting to be there so I can only assume we were let down by someone, which is a real shame. There is also the issue with one side of the pitch being quite soft (nearest to Waitrose) and the other side having a lot of the dome structure along it) so you only have the two long sides to play with.

The Trust would have loved to have some of the Legends in our tent, but I don't think they get there very early!

Just catching up on this thread as I was curious to learn how the day went.

Blimey.

Anyway, from the photos it looked like a great day for young supporters in particular. I hope we're able to make it next year, I'm sure my two would love it. Well done to all those involved. In MTBD, not this thread...

It really is a great day. There was only one bad one I went to and that was when they held it on the Roots Hall car park. Everyone wandered in....and wandered out again, it was so bad. But over at Boots & Laces you have fresh air, lots of space, nice grass fields and the players are in the middle training and playing a game. Your kids would love it, especially as they can meet the players if they wish. Yes, as has been mentioned, it could be better with more stalls and more things to do, but as it's free to get in, you can't complain. I was going to suggest charging adults 4 or 5 pounds to get in with kids free, and the proceeds going to the Simon Dobbin family to help with his care. But I'm sure stall holders wouldn't be happy as it could lower attendance by not being free, and would leave people with less money to spend on their stalls.

That would have been a great idea but I suspect the club wants to park that one now and move on, it's been going on for a few years now and the publicity hasn't been great. But like you say, the stall holders wouldn't be too happy as theyd lose out on revenue and it's always been a free event, which makes it so special for the younger fans especially. Plus, not all family's can afford that sort of money.

Great thought though
