Manager Sacking and Appointment Thread

Rooney much like Lampard and Gerrard has a lot to prove. Being a decent player doesn’t guarantee being a decent coach.
Gerrard did a great job with Rangers - none of his successors have been able to come close to beating Celtic, but he failed at Villa for sure. Lampard had some success with Derby but I think he was on a hiding to nothing at Chelsea and Everton. Rooney doesn't have anything to hang his hat on in terms of success.

Ask any of the 66 Winning team .
Only 1 of them who ventured into management who had success was Jack Charlton. Middlesbrough in the 70's, although their football was anything but exciting, & afterwards at Sheff Weds, although didn't really 'pull up' any trees there?.
Obviously he elevated The Republic of Ireland's status, from what it was beforehand.

I thought he did well at Derby in impossible circumstances didn't he?

Steve Thompson resigns as caretaker manager at Oldham. His 6 games have been 3 wins and 3 draws. Neil Redfearn, his assistant leaves as well.
Report says a meeting with the board indicated the club wanted to move in another direction!

A player who played under him said great player, but never a Manager.
Personally I would dispute he was a great player.Certainly when he played at Bar$a he couldn't trap a ball, which is why he got farmed out to Bayern at the end of his first season

I used to see him & Gary Lineker play quite a lot back in the 80's.Rumour was that Venables only managed to sign Hughes on the strength of his wonderfukl vollied goal for Wales.

I started defending Sparky because you're attacking him, then realised the original commentator meant Rooney, who of course was a great player.
Don't think I ever saw Rooney play live (apart from on the box).FWIW i'd agree he was a great player though.Sparky wasn't (as I said) he couldn't trap a ball.GL certainly could.
