Manager Sacking and Appointment Thread

Chelsea fans not particularly happy with that. They’ve not been great though and apparently not a good relationship with the new owners. Strange to back him so heavily with the finances and then give him the boot.

I rate Potter highly though and wanted him to be next England manager when Southgate eventually goes. Just hope Chelsea don’t ruin his reputation.

Seems Brighton have given permission for Chelsea to speak to him.

Unfortunately when a club like Chelsea comes in it's hard to say no. Greame Potter might never get this opportunity again so from that point of view it's no brainer to accept the Chelsea job. No disrespect to Brighton but their not in the same league as Chelsea. It's actually nice to see English manager get 1 of the top jobs in the prem..... hope he does well.

I also hope Potter doesn't go, 10 managers in 10 years says it all, another career down the pan thank's to greed if he does.

I would like to think he is much better than that and he deserves far more than being yet another Chelsea temp manager.

One day other teams will realise longevity pays dividends look at Fergie, Klopp & Pep who have all been given time & time to rebuild when things aren't right & succeed again.

I agree some clubs have a poison chalice when it comes to appointing managers however money talks and its an oppurtunity very difficult to say no too.

I don't see why getting sacked at Chelsea would ruin his career. Ignoring caretakers the managers sacked by Abramovich were:

Claudio Ranieri
Jose Mourinho (twice)
Avram Grant
Luis Filepe Scolari
Carlo Ancelotti
Andres Villas Boas
Roberto Di Matteo
Antonio Conte
Maurizio Sarri
Frank Lampard
Thomas Tuchel

Of those I'd say the only managers that haven't had much of a career after Chelsea were Grant (although he only got the job in the first place because he was mates with Abramovich, he'd never managed outside Israel before Chelsea) and Di Matteo (who was meant to only be an interim manager but after winning the champions league he was given a chance to stay on).

It's reported he has signed a 5 yr contract, so going to be mega expensive if his sacked after a season or two?.
Possibly Chelsea have added clauses to a potential mega pay off, if success isn't achieved within a season or two?.
If that is the case, then if i was Potter i wouldn't have signed it!.

Chelsea are paying Brighton over £20 million in compensation for Head Coach Graham Potter, they must have really wanted him. Chelsea have also given Potter a 5 year £60 million contract.

Also departing are his assistant Billy Reid, first-team coaches Bjorn Hamberg and Bruno, goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts and assistant head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay who will all follow Potter to Chelsea.

I am glad I don't support Chelsea, their relentless pursuit of success & constant changes in personnel statistically are shocking (10 managers in 10 years).

Football is supposed to be a sport but that was lost a long time ago when success was bought on & off the pitch rather than played for 🙁

Southend have done exactly the same but without the success and ended in two relegations.

Supposition and most likely incorrect. As he’s signed-up obviously Potter is happy with the contract he’s been offered….

Whatever happens, Potter is a brave bloke stepping into Tuchel’s shoes. It’ll make or break him, Chelsea fans will be hoping he’s not another Frankie Lampard.

I think Potter will do alright, he comes into the job with a much more impressive CV than Lampard, who basically only got the job because there was a transfer embargo at Chelsea and as a result they couldn't interest anyone decent, so they went with a club legend to avoid fan backlash.

If he lasts 18 months he will clear over 10 mill. The if he is still bothered about football can enjoy himself back at the middling premiership clubs or an up and coming championship sleeping giant with a new rich owner. What not to like

Think there's some revisionist history going on there. Lampard did well at Derby and in hindsight that was quite an achievement. He earned his opportunity at Chelsea.
