Post-Match Thread and Ratings Maidenhead United 1-0 Southend United

Got to ask the question what do Currie and Bentley do. Do they have any input?

I observe the bench a lot at Roots Hall (much better than watching paint dry on the pitch) and Bentley seems to wander around with a clipboard and only be interested in who the opposition are going to change 30 seconds before it's announced on the digital subs board. I don't think see him do anything with the information, shout instructions to players about who's picking up this man at corners and free kicks. What does Bentley do?

Currie similar.
Think you’re being overly harsh as pre match they can regularly be seen kicking a ball to each other like a couple of Dads at the park - clearly this is an invaluable pre match excerise .

And both are more skilful than most of the players.
They send 40-50 yard passes with pinpoint accuracy to one another.

He's not going to resign as it's everyone else's fault.....Ref, lino, KAF, tea lady, never his ****e selection and tactics
He ****er ain't he pal. Hopefully he will be gone soon. COSU will be playing risky game if they expect 7k week at Roots Hall with Maher ball next season.

That's an easy one and I'm surprised you don't know the answer.

COSU are reluctant to throw money away on hefty compensation because they intend to pay what they are obliged to pay.

Ron would commit to any expenses because he was a shyster and wouldn't intend paying anything.

I'm surprised that you sadly missed my point. I don't actually believe they can't afford to sack him. It was a rhetorical, though clumsy question. Do you think they don't have the money to sack him?

I don't think COSUs pride will let them sack him.

To my knowledge, there are just 3 members of COSU with football experience.

The one with the most is somewhere in Scotland and we never hear from him.

One is still writing his first 100 days report.

The other preached community and then his community trust made one of the most recognisable staff redundant.

I recent weeks:

*They had to be told by fans and the trust that their own ticketing system was charging people to swap seats.

*They opened the north bank to the delight of about ten people and left it filthy and without working speakers in-between games

*The thought the deadlines on issuing paperwork to companies house didn't apply to them

* Have created a fans board and then selected what appears to be a very similar bunch of people to it.

I guess noticing the style of football is turgid is gonna take a while to hit their radar.

I did say it was a must win for maidenhead also stated early in the week i feared Maher would go back to his 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 whatever. Maher has lost the players its as clear as day to me If COSU dont replace him very quickly i fear COSU will lose the supporters and that will cost them more than paying off Maher. Seriously we have the players just not the right manager Forget the playoffs under Maher no chance. COSU my advice let Maher go before its too late, Allow a new manager and there are some out there who would do a good job come in now and evaluate the players so we can be ready for the forthcoming season, I know you wont listen but there ive said . Maher has to go the supporters want a team that gives 100% for the shirt and a manager that will play some decent attacking attractive football. not this crap Maher is dishing up . Continue wiith this and it will show in the STH next season .

We've lost to part time Maidenhead twice in a season without scoring a goal in either game. Simply unacceptable.

I wanted to give Maher time to get a reaction after last week's embarrassment. He's failed miserably and has tipped me over the edge.

The squad has somehow regressed since last seasons threadbare but spirited bunch. Can anyone name one successful permanent signing in the last year? Maybe Morton? Everyone else has ranged from average to **** poor. I thought John Still was supposed to be some sort of magician? Sadly not.

Didn't get to the game today but sounds like I didn't miss much.

I went to see the Korgis at Rayleigh Mill tonight...the ironic thing is their most famous hit is "Everybody's got to learn sometime"

You couldn't make it up.

Just home after a long and depressing day. Had two mates, non Southend with me today for a lads day out. They hit the nail on the end, lack of desire, to slow in the build up and lacking a cutting edge. So they can see it but Maher can’t. That today was as bad as Alty away but worse due to the standard of opposition. Maidenhead hardly laid a hand on us yet Hayes was MOM for us today. Think they had 5 shots on target, he had no chance with the goal and saved the other four, their keeper had one save the whole game. We turned up again in huge numbers to be presented with an absolutely shocking performance. Firstly two up front against a team fighting relegation, why? Then despite being one down we make like for like changes, why not add more attacking threat and a defender off. We created so little you would think we were in the bottom three. Where was the fight, where was the passion, where was the desire? It was missing on all fronts. That today was not a team playing for the manager. 45 years supporting this year and that performance today has made me more angry than many before it. We need a reaction Tuesday but then they’ve had a week to react to last weeks performance and we got that today. Pathetic. I hear that Maher said we had the better chances and were unlucky, really? Wtf? What game was he watching. Got told to **** off by someone on the terracing for voicing my opinion. I like many spend hours travelling the country supporting our team, costs a fortune. I think I have the right to voice my opinion as does anyone but don’t tell me to **** off. Totally fed up tonight

Sorry Kev, but that was nowhere near good enough. A decent enough first half performance where we threatened a couple of times without ever looking like we would score. Second half.....I'm speechless!
Coker, who had a shocking first half should have been replaced at half time.
I said it at the time and I'll say it again now, Hopper should never have been offered a contract beyond the end of this season. He just can't run anymore and was on his heels the whole time he was on the pitch. There was a good reason why the Cowleys were not playing him and were prepared to release him. We saw why today.
A couple of times, balls were slid into the danger zone. The first he somehow sliced wide, the second he was too slow to get in front of the defender leading to an easy clearance.

At 1-0 down Kev stuck rigidly to the same system with like for like substitutions.
It just baffles me why he wouldn't change it up and go 3 up top? Push Walker out wide and give them something else to think about. We made it so easy for Maidenhead in that second half. Once again we played all of our painfully slow football in front of them and never got anyone running in behind.
Where was the terrier like performance from Husin that we saw at home against Fylde the other week? He went missing again and was a yard off the pace all game.
Goodliffe failed to convince. He didn't dominate his man physically and his lack of pace was horribly exposed on a couple of occasions.
Ralph and Gus out wide just don't cut it for me as attacking outlets as they don't have the pace/ trickery to pose enough problems for the opposition. Consequently they are forced to play the ball back inside and any momentum is immediately lost.
Only Hayes and Morton came out of the game with any credit for me.

My biggest concern is that I don't think Kev has the answers to our problems right now. We have been crying out for some pace in the side as competition for Bridge all season. Even if his first choice long term target isn't available until the summer, there must be a young loanee available from a championship/ premier league side who could come in and add some of the missing ingredients?
We currently have 5 strikers on our books who all look like they wouldn't score more than 5/6 goals if they played a full season in our side. That can't be right and alarm bells should be ringing.
Great post as always and absolutely spot on

Perhaps, these fans should have come together quicker to get the previous chairman out 5yrs ago before we fell out of the league.
Mid table L2 was do-able you'd think, with a new backing like COSU.
Being a winner albeit in a lower div, well thats a whole new ball game..
Many tried but Ron wasn't selling. The visually obvious fan demos against Ron arguably was only that. The only opportunity to force the change was financially driven. Ron ran out of options.

I feel your pain and frustration. Not made a comment today, couldn’t find the words to be honest. Always tried to give Kev the benefit of doubt, but something just isn’t right. I’m still puzzled how we performed so well at Daggers, then followed it up with now two unconvincing performances. Where has the team spirit gone that see us overcome Chesterfield at home with a much depleted squad? I have no inside knowledge of what’s happening, but I hope it gets sorted soon as our fans deserve better.
