Leyton Orient Game Televised

With Orient having a reduced capacity for the season and Southend only having 500 tickets for the match in a week or so the Club are considering having the match beamed back to Roots Hall on a big screen.

However, there is a substantial cost for this and we will be looking to charge an entrance fee. We need around 1,200-1,300 supporters to make this feasable is it something you think Blues supporters would be interested in considering 500 fans will be at Brisbane Road?

Speedy responses appreciated.

If it was a really important match maybe, but it's midweek and I just can't see it being profitable

I would have to agree with Napster. And shouldn't Orient foot the bulk of the cost seeing as its their opulent plans that have consigned many of us to chat rooms or sitting in silence in the home end on the 7th.
Maybe if there was some other activities on the night, an egg eating contest etc, might sway some people to come?

Agree with the comments so far. I'd love for the idea to work and I'd certainly come myself. Success for the project would mean it paying for itself I presume so much would depend on the entrance fee. I think the idea is a good one, and it's great that the club is researching new ideas, but I don't personally think you'll be able to attract the required number of people (sorry to say!).

You would be hard-pressed to get 1200-1300 supporters in the Far-Post/Shrimpers Bar/Groundsman's. Don't think that would work too well.

1300 people paying a tenner each to watch the game on TV? Good luck.....

Well maybe a hastily arranged poll in the local rag could give us a better idea on the level of intrest?.

I personally love this idea, cant see why we couldnt get over 1000 in the ground for this as long as the club dont take the **** on ticket prices, certainly shouldnt be a profit making night in my opinion, ill be quite happy to pay whatever is deemed necessary to cover the costs of the night. I mean it shouldnt be hideously expensive to arrange should it, for starters we wouldnt need any police would we?.

Anyway the idea has my vote.

maybe allowing the consumption of alcohol at your seat would help too?

Lets hope the big screens not operated by the bloke who said on the scoreboard that it was Southend 1 Chester 1 on Saturday

otherwise we'll probably end up watching some Italian art film....

what do you reckon Scriv....would the idea of allowing the consumption of alcohol in your seat, bought from the far post/groundsmans, in plastic cups of course, be a bit far fetched?. Surely there is no rules on alcohol consumption for such a unique event?. I think if this was allowed it could just sway a few people....

Sounds like a great idea in principle, but in reality there could be a few problems. We had an allocation of 500 tickets sold, plus there will be a couple of hundred brave souls in the main stand at Orient, so 7-800 will be attending the match. If we would typically take 1500 to Orient, that falls short of the 1200+ you need to break even.

I would certainly be interested, especially as the radio coverage is not always the greatest. What the club needs to do, is go ahead with the idea, BUT get maximum publicity by stating what they intend to do on SkySports News as well as local media (EssexFM, Evening Echo etc.) groups. I think there would be more interest in this game than most people think... I feel another publicity stunt coming on!
