lets get this pizza shop shut down

the bottom line is do you think RM wants to go down in history as he man who shafted SUFC. We all have different opinions on this.
Personally having met him several times and putting questions to him I've never thought this. However what he took on was an enormous task fraught with pitfalls and an uncertain outcome. Of that I've never been in doubt.
He has to keep his nerve as do we I think. Unfortunately there are some who at the first whiff of grapeshot start panicing. The next few months are probably the most important months the club (aka RM's companies and don't forget he is the major shareholder in the club) has ever faced. Here's hoping.

Bazza - I'm not being pedantic, but you keep saying "we" incorrectly (unless you're Ron Martin or a business associate of his). The club does not own Roots Hall nor the surrounding land (nor the training ground for that matter). The club is not buying the pizza place, Prospects or wherever. The club will not sell anything to Sainsbury's, for a profit or otherwise. The club will not own any of Fossetts Farm (unless Ron Martin's been keeping back some good news for the club and he's going to transfer the ownership of the new stadium to the club).

By "we", you're referring to Ron Martin's other companies that own the land - ie the club's landlord who has not been asking the club to pay rent whilst at Roots Hall but who may decide to charge the club rent at some point in the future (eg if and when the club moves to Fossetts Farm).

Apologies - I did set out to write RM rather than "we" - note my earlier post and the beginning of the post you quote.

Oh, come on...Sainsburys want this store to happen (they've shown that with the bail out of the tax money) and big companies like them are used to getting their own way over smaller retailers.

This will be sorted out, no worries at all.

I am sure Sainsbury will have some kind of debenture in place over the money given to RM. Also i would be astounded if their legal team haven't put a date in place by which time all purchases need to be made or said debenture comes into play.

Haven't they also bought Ashton Gate and Morecambe's ground as well?

Of course it will be sorted, but one of their trump cards is us. Ron knew exactly what he was doing when he made those comments IMO and to be fair why not? We want this project to move forward just as much as Ron and Sainsburys do. I am completely happy to be part of any boycott and advertise it, be it by word of mouth, facebook group etc. I don't have facts but I'm happy to draw my own conclusion that a fair price must have been offered across the board for everyone else to sell up and that greed is the main motivation now. I don't blame them for seeing an opportunity and exploiting it, if I were in the same position and it wasn't my club affected then I'd hold out. I'd also suggest that as way of gentle persuasion we use the threat of boycotting any future "Pizza man" establishment should negotiations drag on.

100% my view on this also

My understanding is this :

All of the businesses and residents were advised that club wished and needed to secure those properties.
We have also advised that a CPO is in place should they not vacate.

Is this nice for the people in those properties/ businesses ?

Yes and no. There are a lot of people struggling financially out there small businesses in particular.
If offered a good financial incentive to move/relocate most would accept, which they have.

There are of course those who will look at the bigger picture maybe be a little more comfortable financially and realise that there is money to be made.

Its not the best kept secret that the club needs the move to survive nor is it a massive secret as to what is being built at roots hall and the costs have been slapped all over the echo.

Now if i was said businessman and saw the words 80 million development i would hold out for life changing money knowing that i could quite litterally cause havoc with the whole venture.

My understanding of the current situation is this:

We have offered more than enough compensation and also offered to find suitable premises to re-open elsewhere and help with the initial set up costs advertising etc aswell as subsidising most if not all of the initial short-term rent for the first few months(3-6) in order to help the business get underway.

That to me seems like more than fair and is more than the initial offers made to all the people that have already accepted.

So i now have no sympathy for these business and think that we should all boycott them into accepting what in truth is a great deal. I have never used either and TBH im sure there are alot of people who use them who do not support the club or its relocation and therefore would be more inclined to support the business by ordering more than usuall.

Ron martins bully boy tactics may work but they may quite as easily have the opposite affect but stiring public support, after all we dont own the town nor have the right to shove anybody out of our way.

Time will tell but i have a feeling that both business resolve will weaken over the coming weeks, after all it wasnt that long ago that prospects came out and said that a deal was dead in the water and thats been finalized.

Personally I don't think we should want to play any part of RM's schadenfreude, I want the new ground, but if this was a member of your family or circle of friends you'd be backing them, RM/Sainsbury's will win, but for the love of god, let the little man have his fun with this and eek more money out of RM, if it was you you'd do the same thing.

no, I'd be saying that they should take the offer rather than run the risk of it going to a CPO.

Or saying "what does your solicitor reckon"? Probably the best solution all round :)

If I saw something like that practically inciting a mass boycott I'd do all I could to stretch this out to the last possible moment.

Like I said, RM/Saino's will win, but the pizza shop is entitled to this course of action to maximise what they can get, or they're Col U fans having a bit of fun with us.

I will just buy more pizzas there then and **** you over with it! hahahahah

IMO this all seems like a very desperate move by the club..I don't blame the Pizza guy holding out for a better offer than is already on the table but it is a fine line whether he will get more or not...He will only lose out if it goes to a CPO but so will Ron (time wise) unless he is going to build the supermarket around him and I can't see the council or Sainsbury's standing for that.

One thing that strikes me is though if this Pizza guy who might have just a lease on a shop he doesn't own has only been there for say a year..why didn't Ron when the premises became vacant at that time take the lease on himself..He knew his long term plans included that shop..then again did the Pizzaa guy make a shrewd move himself and take it on knowing that he had maybe a nice pot coming in? He must of known it was only going to be for a short time with the supermarket in the background and I don't believe for one minute he makes a profit there with Dominoes 2 minutes away.

Well then maybe he is running at a loss because that price is ridiculous..The other "Golden Egg" though is maybe not.
