Leon Clarke's ours if we want him!

If I understood him correctly on BBC Essex earlier today, Tilly said that there is aa clause in Leon's loan contract that gives us the option to buy him at a price that has already been agreed (something that has been posted on other SZ threads). If this is the case does this mean that the deal is done if we decide to progress it and that Wednesday have, in effect, placed Leon Clarke's future in SUFC's hands? If this is the case, presumably they could recall him but not change his long-term future if we decide we want to buy him. Or is this all wishful thinking on my part?

Yep hear what you say but how can you agree personal terms with a player if you don't know you're going to want at the end of the loan? If Leon bangs in 20 goals between now and Christmas he may turn round and say he wants £10,000 a week!

What a huge shame Clarke didn't join us when we went for him 18 months ago though - he and Freddy would have been dynamite together and may well have kept us up last season.

Spot on, Leon was my MotM at Oldham and as far as I'm concerned he was the type of striker we were screaming out for last year! With him & Eastwood (who maybe would have kept a bit more interest with someone who could partner him) we'd more than likely have won 3 or 4 more games & possibly not dropped silly points at places like Hillsborough!

Clarke didn't really celebrate his goal today following his loan spell with Oldham last year.

Jamie Cureton also didn't celebrate his goals for Col U against Norwich last season as an ex-Canary (and now current of course).

Players who give respect like that when playing against former Clubs are, for me, top drawer characters.

We could have a special one in Leon if we can keep him.

At least we know he won't celebrate when he scores against us for his new club. :p
