Leon Clarke's ours if we want him!

Ok guys lets get some perspective here. I was at the gills game and I'm heading up to Oldham tomora. Leon's had one game and he looked damn impressive. However its well too early to say he could be the 20 goal a season striker we've been crying out for. You've got to remember his goalscoring stats from previous clubs aren't amazing. However he's still young and the signs are good at this stage. What i will say is he showed a touch of class that our other forwards haven't shown so at worst he could be the partner to mr 20 goal. How about Leon partnering Matt-20 goal-Harrold for the rest of the season. Problem solved surely? :hilarious:

Agree with the post, whilst Clarke looked superb and made a huge impact its just one game. He looks to have the class to be better than anything we have though.

As to goal scoring stats, they are pretty good actually.

1 goal in 1 start for us
2 goals in 4 starts for Wednesday
3 goals in 5 starts for Oldham
13 goals from 32 starts for Wolves.

Lots of subs appearances (52) but thats pretty good going.

Ok i must have seen the stats with sub appearances included so he looked less prolific. I stand corrected

Just takes a manager to bring out the best in him, or for him to play in a side that suits his style of play.

Maybe we have both!!

Time will tell, he looked like he could be very good but he only made one appearence(a bloody good one appearence) we have the luxury of being able to see him in action over the next few months and make a decision. Patience my friends .....patience

Clarke looked good when he played against us last year and also had a very good Debut, theres nothing like having a blinding debut to get the fans on your side and also upping your confidence .

I feel he has every chance to bacome a good player for the blues.

That good, if Clarke bang in 10 goals or more by december and set up few which see Southend rise to the play-off zone, we would be sh*tting ourselves praying that we sign him before anyone else try to nick him off us. That why this is wise move to get the deal done earlier as possible, I belive Clarkes not a 20 goals type players, he also can hold the ball and create chance for our midfielders who get themselve in good postion to score.

Agreed. Appears a good prospect after the 1st game - but let's judge around christmas before actually spending any money on the lad - i really hope leon turns in performances like the gills one week in week out - then we'll be back in the championship sooner rather than later :)

I'm pretty sure Clarke's talent has never been in doubt but his application frequently has. If it all clicks, brilliant. However, we've only seen him play once and I'd want to make sure he's well settled before doing anything too rash.

Then again, as many have mentioned, we are a relatively small club and Clarke at his best would probably be beyond our typical budget.

It's a risk but a reasonable one. I just hope that people don't expect him to turn out to be a superstar even if he has the potential to be very good.

Great news but supposing after the loan deal he decides he doesn't want to move down south permanetly. IF Wednesday struggle up to Christmas and tip him the wink that there may be a first team place going up there after all we still could loose him. He might not agree personal terms... theres still too many things that can go wrong and I don't see any difference between this arrangement and a straight loan.

yes it reminds me of the old classic joke regarding the two Irish homosexuals - Trevor FitsPatrick and Patrick FitsTrevor

Not a very good joke, then, because names beginning 'Fitz' are English not Irish, and Trevor isn't an Irish name either.

Clarke did look very good. Players seem to have a habit of coming here and looking quality from the outset when they're something a bit special. So it just might be...

Crickey!! Your in a positive mood tonight!

Yes it's all about possibles but we can all hope it works out for both SUFC and LC.
