Indeed. Lee's last goal for Southend was Boxing Day 2009 in the defeat to Colchester. The game that Barna references in September vs Leeds not only did Barnard not score but no one scored. It was a 0-0.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Lee's last goal for Southend was two days later at Leyton Orient.

Not according to Soccerbase. Barrett and McCormack were the scorers. I do remember a couple of goals for him at Brisbane Road though.

Yeah I remember this, and there is reason to think it was Orient. Barney and Macca were in the box, Barney shot and scored but Macca claimed a touch / deflection and they both went to claim the goal, realised the other was claiming and did a quick paper, scissors, rock to decide; which MacCormack won and promptly ran off to celebrate.

Proof once again that Paper, Scissors, Rock rules above all.

Don't ever change Barna.

Just got in and WOW ! I cannot take all this good news and positivity. I need to lie down in a dark room.

Chances of getting David Crown back ?

Great to see Barnard back.At 29 not too old as well.Remember when we sold him in January 2010,massive reason along with players not getting paid that we were relegated

Thought you wouldn't have him back as he threatened to down tools Ron?

Someone was telling porkies!

Fantastic signing- yet more good news
Although returning and a player we know well actually a perfect fit for a PB signing.

Puts himself around, chases and harries and can score goals. Probably could do the one up front if needed as I remeber his hold up play was excellent

he was great for us before, really enjoyed watching him in a southend shirt, my only concern, although i hope im wrong, i really enjoyed watching freddy in his first spell too......

I'm not sure why he's decided to drop right down, but I guess there are a few reasons that might contribute:

1. He'd be on a fair whack. There's not a huge reason for him to leave and join permanently somewhere else because he won't earn any where near as much. Therefore he's looking for a loan club to make him as attractive as possible.

2. It'd only make sense for him to go on loan to a club where he's going to get a reasonable amount of games. Playing (and hopefully scoring) puts him in the shop window. He'll be looking for CCC offers (or L1 if not - hopefully with us) in the summer

3. He's local-ish

4. Familiarity is sometimes helpful to get a career back on track. He'll get support and know people in and around the club

5. We're doing really well - he'll go into a team that's flying and that's ideal for him

6. Other options seeing as he's based in Essex either aren't attractive (Col Ewe, Millwall, Charlton) or don't really need him (Brentford, Orient).

All being said, I'm surprised he didn't go to Gillingham.
