Southend United defender facing uncertain future at club

OLLIE Kensdale is facing an uncertain future at Southend United.

The defender missed both of the Shrimpers’ matches over the Bank Holiday weekend with the club citing an illness.

However Echosport understands the defender was unavailable due to a disciplinary matter which is being investigated by the club.

Blues boss Kevin Maher was not willing to discuss Kensdale’s absence in the aftermath of Monday’s 2-2 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 24-year-old joined the Shrimpers from Concord Rangers in December 2021 and has made 110 appearances.

Both the club and Kensdale declined to comment at this stage when contacted by the Echo.

Must be some kind of serious misconduct:

In trouble with the police
Talking to other clubs without the club knowing
Failing drug test
Refusing to play

Shame, he has been a decent player for us, and I had him earmarked as one to watch for going on to bigger things in the future.

However, whatever he has done, I back Kevin as he has the insights to know what happened (we dont need to know!). Kev will know what is best for the team and the squad. With a small, tightknit group like ours, discipline is a huge factor, and once trust is broken there is often no way back.
