Just got back!

I know. But Wiggy's comment was that Black scored two goals JCR could only dream of, which is factually incorrect, especially as Black's goals were in a friendly.

The attendance last night by the way was 1,362. Didn't look that many, but then Melbourne Park is quite a widespread venue.

I think what Wiggy might be saying is the way Blacks goal were created , he was making runs in field and beyond our 2 forwards which is something that JCR doesn't do and that is a fact.

I am a big fan of JCR but he plays as a winger and will not score as many as Tommy if he just hogs the touchline, and doesn't get in the box enough.

I like the look at possily playing a mdifield of JCR..Maher..macca..gower nad black just having a free role in front of them , it would be affective in some togh away games where we need to pack the midfield out and break quickly.

.......Wasnt impressed by their ground, stands to far away from pitch. Running track plus long jump track between stands and pitch............ I think any gamblers out there could do worse than have a small investment on Chelmsford to win Ryman prem and I think they will be very big price to win FA trophy .

Sorry about the track (I don't like it much and it doesn't help with the atmosphere either), but in order to get back into Chelmsford we had no real choice. There are plans to develop the side opposite the main stand (on the side of the athletics centre itself) which will be much nearer because the roadway in front of the few seats already there is no longer a requirement.

Still, it's home, and we'd much rather be there getting gates of 800+ than at Billericay getting far less.

As for the game, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought we just shaded the 1st half but not by much, but you guys were much more in control in the 2nd, though if Kez had scored the 1 on 1 or that header had gone in instead of the keeper making an excellent save, it might have been a bit different. I thought Black played really well for you, and Bradbury worked hard too, and the keeper was excellent apart from our first goal where he was well off his line. If that's mostly your reserves then I think you could do well next year, but I think you'll need a good start.

Thanks for the positive comments about our side too, I think we're looking a lot stronger than last year where we had a good but small squad, so injuries and suspensions killed us off, as well as an inability to mix it with the cloggers in the Ryman (and there are plenty), especially the one's with awful pitches (there are plenty of them too). Ours may be a little sandy but it is very flat and allows us to play good footie at home. I only hope we can still knuckle down away from Melbourne.

All the best for the season. Will be dropping in on Roots Hall 2 or 3 times as normal (last year was WBA and QPR).

Chelmsford haha why not just support the mighty Shrimpers? why waste you time on the sinking ship that is Jeff King!!!!

Adrian C needs no defenders on here - but I'll do it anyway! I've seen him down at the Millennium following our boys... but personally, I'd love to see Chelmsford rise through the non-league ranks. If there's a fourth candidate in Essex for a league club, it has to be Chelmsford City - a big town, and there's the potential for a decent-sized club to be built there.

Adrian certainly needn't stop following The Clarets in order also to continue demonstrating that he has a soft spot for the Blues as well.

Matt

I took Chelmsford City into the Premiership in 2016/17 season on FM2007 and finish 17th in the Premiership and won the League Cup as well, Iam looking forward to lead City in their first ever match in UEFA Cup!

Matt and Adrian I am sure you both know me well enough to know I am only playing but I do feel that a Chelmsford rise up could/would effect our support something I would not want to happen

They had the opportunity once....... Chelmsford we always in the mix, in the old Southern league days, for election into the league, but they never made it (and that would have put them in the same division as us). They had the ground and support to maintain a league club then bad management/ ownership blew it .
Personally a little bit of time for Chelmsford, but the Brentwood Town debacle (where the a member of the Chelmsford Board, bought the club , then promptly merged the two and sold the Brentwood ground for housing) in the late 60's still annoys me a bit.

As for Melbourne park, this was developed by the council for use as an athletics facility after ,IIRC, a fair bit of fund raising by Chelmsford AC, who had designs on becoming a National league side. Athletics has been pushed aside once the Football team held the council to ransom by moving out of town.

By the way, Southend still in the premiership for 8 season in a row after I took an young & pacy Southend side to promotion 8 season earlier before I took over a struggling Conference South Chelmsford City side.

The Brentwood town saga rankles a lot of people, including many older clarets too, many clubs have had them (including Southend) and it's not an episode remembered that fondly.....I think as a club we have suffered ever since.

As for the athletics, I don't know about the National League bit so i won't comment but I don't believe we held the council to ransom by moving out of the borough. At the time we left we had no choice. New Writtle Street did not belong to us and having had 3 or so seasons there virtually rent free while the 'company' that did was wound up (another sorry tale..), we had to leave so the developers could move in because it had been sold. NWS was falling to bits by then (I understand we may not have been able to renew the safety cert on the main stand when it was due), and would have cost us money we simply didn't have to firstly buy, and secondly bring up to standard (more likely rebuild). Before moving into Melbourne we'd had 2 other proposals (Beaulieu Park and Sandon) turned down and a temporary site (10yrs) actually in Melbourne Park (on the left by the park changing rooms as you come in) was dropped after it became clear we could move into the current stadium. Just like Southend have had to lobby the borough council for Fossetts Farm, so to we have had to lobby CBC to find us a new home, after all, we can't just waltz in anywhere....

Whilst I'm not denying the athletics side has probably been affected, I disagree they've been pushed aside. All their fixtures take president, we've often had to remove all the terracing behind the goals to do so (although I think a way has been found to limit this). They have got a huge new stand which they are perfectly at liberty to use. I'm sure they did raise a lot of money to go towards the refurbishment of the stadium (which was derelict eyesore at the time) but in fact the vast majority of money I understand came from the lottery and/or other grants, and the redevelopment was for all sports, which leaves the council at liberty to choose who actually uses it.

I'm just glad we're home....... :)

Fair enough, but I would imagine the Hammer, Discuss and Javelin throwers who probably have to find somewhere else to train during the football season would beg to differ.
Generally as long as a stadium is not used for training, Athletics and Football can co exist (except footy fans hate the extra distance to the pitch) as the athletics season starts in May and Ends in August.
Its thetraining which is a big problem. When Southend manor first got into the Essex Senior league the changes to Southchurch park which had to be made to comply with senior standards had an adverse impact on the athletic facilities (which were crap anyway) once the football club decided they wanted to train twice a week as well (Coincidentally the same nights as the already establish Athletics club) and that the throwers were damaging the pitch , it really didn't matter that the already poor track had been rendered dangerous by people running round it in Football boots.
On a personal Note I missed a county Championship one year after colliding with a footballer who was retrieving a ball from the track.

You know I've wondered all that myself, but I know that the javelin throwers definitely still train there. One section of the terracing (i think at the far end) has to be removed regularly through the season to allow them to use the run up. I'm not sure about the others but I wonder if it explains why there is so much sand on the pitch. Certainly the runners still train there, and no players are allowed on the track in boots (for the very reason you stated), hence all the matting, although oppo teams sometimes ignore this......

I appreciate it must be difficult to keep everyone happy tho....

With a record like that i think you should have a season ticket ;)

previous seasons record not so good........:minger:

Gillingham (0-1), Mansfield (1-1) (both poor games) and Scunny (3-0, which was a bit unfair on Scunny) plus Wrexham at the millenium.

Always had a soft spot for the clarets since i was a kid and had to move to ingatestone for a couple of years after my parents split. went along quite regular for a couple of seasons when they was southern league status and had a great laugh. 2 games i remember were ipswich at NWS and scarborough away. Both cup games IIRC. Cant for the life of me remember what the chelmsford 'end' was called though.

What were peoples views on Holmes last night?
