Just got back!

What was the score?

Matt

4-3, Its just dissapointing when you see players who never look as though they are ever going to score and I am afraid I see that in billy paynter. Tommy black played well, but he is not ahead of jcr at the moment and my M.O.M has to be possibly the oldest man on the field, Lee Bradbury. When Mcdonald came on we seem to get the ball forward quicker and then we looked a better side, but I still stand by my earlier post and that is know one in tonights game will start on saturday.

what was that stuff about foran being a porn star and being hung like a donkey all about?:) made me laugh anyway. Black was awsome, Zoltan was sturdy, Our keeper made a few good saves, paynter and foran were awful, macca took his goal well, NOBODY SHOOTS FFS, and bradders was funny before the game hehe

i heard that thing about foran being hung like a horse, i was like what the ****????

he realy didnt see the funny side of the chant

"hung like a donkey, richie is hung like a donkey"
"we can see it poking out, we can see it poking out"
"richies got a semi, richies got a semi"

whos taking a blown up co*k to the game sat then ?

Well as i was the one who said it, i belive i should be the one who finds one to bring ha ha

I thought Foran showed the right attitude tonight. He got crunched in the 2nd half and you could hear everyone wince but instead of being confrontational he got straight up and tried a very quick free-kick.
His work-rate was phenomenal at times and done a lot of overlapping which was good to see.
His chance in the 2nd half after a fine one-two saw him running into the box and trying to connect with a volley which he was unlucky with.
Good to see the effort there after probably getting bolloked Saturday by T&B.

Foran hasn't got the ability to get the ball under quickly but he has that combative spirit that we may need if we are a goal up away from home.

I really think Black should start ahead of JCR on Saturday, I think he would work well with Gilbert (ie he might actually give him the ball) and he has good crossing ability and looks good for a few goals - two fantastic finishes tonight.

Good finish too from Charlie MacDonald which was encouraging, but I've really lost my patience with Paynter and Foran. Both, in my opinion, are just deadwood.

Paynter was disapointing however played three excellent lay offs 2nd half that Matt Harrold could only dream about!

agree about black... if he can last the 90 then i would start him definitely. it's all about fitness with him and with jcr on the bench i think that would be good
.......I agree black had a good game tonight but, IMO JCR is the second name on the team sheet (king kev No1). How you could leave him out is beyond me. He has class which is something we don't have in a great quantity at min. I feel he showed an understanding immediately with Gilbert against V Arn on wed. Is there any other player on the books that can excite in the way JCR does? ........ Back to tonight, MacDonald looked good when
he came on, scored a very good goal. Was impressed by the saves the goalie made. Che bless him worries me greatly. Hunt had a good game without pulling up trees. He had a great run into pen area about 10 min from end. Wonder it he fancies the strikers role The two new center halves were average, both will come on as the season progresses. I hope. Not convinced about bailey yet but then i said that about Maher 9 years ago. Look at him now Probable the GREATEST central midfielder ever to play for southend. IMO giving him a knighthood would not be enough. Peggy looked class and had a good game, but i think Moussa is as good if not better. Foran had a better game looked as if he was trying for a change. Brad's held ball up well but kept looking to play others in when a shot was on. Paynter, well I had high hopes of him this season but not a spark tonight. I think he is too similar to Bradbury to play them as a partnership. WE looked a lot better when MacDonald came on .......... IMO Tilly should keep a close eye on their No 10 he looked very good and only 19 apparently............. Wasnt impressed by their ground, stands to far away from pitch. Running track plus long jump track between stands and pitch............ I think any gamblers out there could do worse than have a small investment on Chelmsford to win Ryman prem and I think they will be very big price to win FA trophy .

Foran was shocking. Tommy Black was good, he has to start on Saturday.

When has Foran been any good? He's useless!

From what i've seen of Black this pre-season he's been one of the stand out players by far! I agree, he has to start on Saturday.

I didn't go tonight as i was working, didn't sound much of a game.

Hmm, I'd replace the word 'excite' with 'frustrate'. Don't get me wrong, JCR does have bags and bags of talent, but as discussed many times, what does he actually produce? The answer is very little.

I'm not sure about his linking up with Gilbert against Arnhem. I sit at the end of the South Stand we were attacking and at times Gilbert got into great positions to deliver a centre and despite screaming for the ball, JCR didn't give it to him, instead deciding to try and take on the whole defence and eventually losing the ball otr putting in a tame centre.

I like JCR, he's full of passion and energy; but I just don't think he creates enough. Well, actually, he doesn't create enough, there's no doubt about that.

Tommy Black I believe will add a bit more teamwork as well as a better delivery and the chance of scoring. Some huge assets that JCR, despite his skill and hardwork, just doesn't seem to have.

Tommy Black has scored goals in the friendlies that JCR wouldn't have got even close to. Blacks finishing has been superb and should be first on Saturday's teamsheet, one problem, Steve Dangerous Tilson won't see it the same!

Wiggy, I realise I'm probably banging my head against a brick wall here but why do you look on the negative side of everything? Why can't you ever show a bit of perspective in your posts? Rather than slating Tilson for preferring JCR over Black, why not be encouraged by the fact we've actually got a potential sub who can come on and add a new dimension to our attack; something we were crying out for last season?

Tilly clearly rates Black as he brought him in at the first possible opportunity but he has a history of fitness problems and there's no guarantee that he could reproduce the same form he's shown in a couple of the friendlies from the start of a competitive league match. Let's see how the start of the season pans out and how Black develops. Over time, he has the opportunity to gain a first-team spot, particularly as Tilson has proved in the past that he isn't afraid to drop JCR if necessary.

Besides, your comments about Black scoring goals JCR can only dream about is clearly nonsense as JCR scored a couple of fantastic goals against WBA. In the first team. In the Championship. Yes, obviously he needs to reproduce that on a regular basis but at least we know he is capable of delivering and his form in the second half of last season suggests that he could be a real menace in League 1.

As for your comments on Harrold earlier in the thread, it's fans like you that turn potentially good players into failures before they've had a chance to develop and establish themselves. He's scored far more than any other forward in pre-season and therefore deserves credit where credit is due. Sure, his overall game is still a bit raw but he is still young and will improve if he gets the chance. He also contributed more than many people give him credit for last season and his fantastic first-time lay-off for Gower to score away at Coventry proves he does have awareness of others around him in the box.

Come on, Wiggy, get behind Tilly and the team. You know it makes sense. :) ;)

a report from me on tonights game below

Well me and my mate Gaz travvelled to the game early afternoon so a stroll around the shops was in order after getting off the train in which Gaz missed first of all. after getting bored of walking round the shops for a few hours we decided to walk to the ground (not realising how far it was) after the nightmere walk in which we got lost twice and took over an hour we finally reached melbourne park, by which time it was dead on 7:00 pm so went straight to players/officials enterance to pick up our complimentry tickets nicely given by Paul Brush as his son is captain for my team ShrimperZone II. So we made our way to the main stand to take up our seats amongst the chelmsford season ticket holders and a handful of Southend fans to soak up the pre-match atmospere in the sunshine and watching the warm ups.

The team sheets were read out which read like this for Southend

Andersen
Hunt, Richards, Liptak, Wilson
Black, Lokando, Bailey, Foran
Bradbury, Paynter

The game started and wasnt long before Chelmo took a surprise lead through a 30 yard wonder strike from Bertie Brayley which looped over 19 year old Reading stopper Andersen. the game was an exciting one which was end to end in which Southend equalized in the 19th minute through a Lee Bradbury penalty after Richie Foran was taken down by home keeper Richard Mckinlay. Chelmsford didnt let there heads go down and continued to play the better football against a nervous Southend side and was rewarded for there efforts going 2-1 up through kezie Ibe's scrappy effort from a corner after about 35 minutes which is how this game finished at halftime.

The teams appeared for the second half with no subs being used. Southend stepped up there game a bit but Chelmsford wasnt fazed as they continued to attack a team that played Championship football last term. and with Steve Tilson and Paul Brush sat in the stands reserve manager Dean Austin brought on new striker Charlie MacDonald on for Lee Bradbury on the hour mark which was a welcome change for the lacklustre Southend United forward line but with near immediate affect Bertie Brayley came close to putting Chelmsford 3-1 with a header that came back off the bar from a Chelmo corner but Southends clearence fell straight to new signing Tommy Black who sprinted towards goal shrugging off his marker to cooly slip the ball past the keeper and make it 2-2. within 6 minutes Black made it 3-2 this time after finding a bit of space in the box shot through a crowd of players and nestled into the corner. Chelmsford were back on level terms five minutes later when Southend newboy Nicky Bailey making a mistake by giving the ball away to which the ball was played through to a Chemsford striker but Zoltan Liptak recovered and got in his tackle only for the ball to rebound to Jason 'Rhino' Hallett to smash home past 'rookie' Andersen but moments later MacDonald produced a moment of genius inside the area to turn his marker and find the gap between post and keeper from a narrow angle with a sweet volley that made it 4-3 United.

The game continued at frantic pace as Chelmsford looked to get back into it and Southend also tried extending there lead.

The game then finished 4-3 with Southend being poor with the only real highlight being Youngster Peggey Lokando shining on his first start.

After making our way out of Melbourne park we decided after the eventful walk to the ground we would get the bus to the station which was alot quicker taking just 10 minutes and meeting a group of happy Shrimpers singing the favourites from the terraces of Roots Hall in which we stayed with untill getting off the train at wickford a good night was had by all and we look forward to kicking off the season next saturday with the visit of Leyton Orient to Roots Hall.
