Jeremy Corbyn's Labour

:off topic:

Some interesting chat here about the British Empire and so on but the title says Jeremy Corbyn so please let us bring the talk back to the subject of the Rt Hon Member for Islington North.

Like him or not, we can, I think, agree that he did not start WWI or WWII.

Quite right, sooooo, anti seminism. Seems the Labour Party is riddled with it.

6 years ago a mural was being removed and the artist complained about censorship. It depicts bankers some of whom look Jewish - the artist insists it isn't anti-Semitic but it looks it. Corbyn replied to a Facebook message by disapproving of its removal. Now that it has been brought into the public domain 6 years later and Corbyn has said he didn't look at the image close enough and has apologised and denounced the mural as anti-Semitic.

That has been front page news and all over social media.

If Labour was riddled with anti-Semitism would the above be such big news?

And it took him 6 years to see what everyone else saw in 6 seconds? It reminded me of Nazi properganda posters in an instant, you're an intelligent chap, what did it remind you of?

Have you actually looked at the mural? Of the bankers, only two are Jewish, the rest are Christian and one, Crowley was an avowed antisemite. The point of the mural is to illustrate the oppression of the working class by capitalism represented by bankers and it succeeeds admirably. Those witch hunters determined to use fake accusations of antisemitism against Corbyn will always find it wherever they look as they have despicably weaponised an emotive issue with the sole aim of toppling him so that the Labour Party can revert to its former Tory lite agenda. After the Al Jazeera revelations of an Israeli secret agent boasting about how he could take down a minister it is quite possible that this is part of a concerted effort by rightwing 'Labour' MPs in collusion with the Israeli PR outfit that used to employ the notorious MP Ruth Smeeth.

I've waited days for the apologists to come out with their excuses but this is probably as low as you can go. Tangled and *** wisely have kept their heads low. The man is unfit to be a party leader and the Labour party is riddled with anti-semitism. After all is not one of the tenets of anti racism that if the aggrieved feel it, it is so. The Jewish community are very moderate and that there was a demonstration by these moderates shows how deep their feelings are. Oh and as you mention Ruth Smeeton have a look at this. Kinder sort of politics my arse.

Beyond satire

If you look under beds you will find communists. Well, actually you wont. They were just figments of people's imaginations. That was Post War America.

Today, you will find anti semites. No doubt I will be accussed of anti semitism, but it seems to me there is a concerted effort by a small number of people, with connections to the Tory Party, to smear Corbyn. How else would a demonstration of 500 make headline story on Newsnight, when the much larger anti Brexit march didn't get a mention.

Corbyn, lets be honest here is the only mainstream politicial leader with a history of opposing racism, facism and, to be exact, anti semitism. The broad definition of anti semitism seems to be being used to tar anyone who says anything about Jews. I'll instead go as far as left as you can and quite the Socialist Worker (the mouthpiece of the SWP, who have been accused of anti semitism because of their stand on the current leadership of Israel) who in discussion about zionism took the postition that in a situation where a facist was beating up a Jew, you wouldn't ask if the Jew was a Zionist, you'd oppose the facsist.

I looked under my bed, and apart from a few childhood monsters, there were no anti semites or communists.

Last week Corby was a Czech KGB agent, this week he is an anti semite, next week an invader from the planet Mungo working on behalf of Ming the Merciless?? All this in a week where May put a stop to free school meals for poor kids (not reported on in the Looney Press). Anyone would think there are elections coming up and some of you just lap it up.

The fact remains, that if you lived in Scandanavia, Corbyn would be a run of the mill social democrat. Quite why you are so ****ing scared of someone who offers the most radical social agenda we've seen in decades, one that offers solutions to poverty and homelessness beggars belief and says more about your own ignorance and selfishness than anything else.

Simple. We've lived in the 60s and 70s. The music was good and the politics were hell. The policies don't work and never will. East Germany thank God is a memory. Making people poorer is not the road to equality. It is the biggest of all lies to say he is a run of the mill social democrat. Look at the policies. I do actually have a lot of time for naïve young people, I was one myself, but I do wish they'd read their history books. The mural was one of the most anti-semitic pictures I've ever seen and Corbyn flunked the test as he does time and again with his support of Hamas, IRA you name it he did it. The man is a complete menace and has been for 40 plus years.

Again - If Labour was riddled with anti-Semitism why would a 6 year old comment against censorship be such big news?

The protest was not just members of the Jewish community it was also Blairite MPs, Tory MPs and DUP MPs. A demonstration protesting about religious intolerance attended by the DUP!

And there was a counter protest. And the counter protest has not been covered much, but where it has been covered it has largely been ignored that the counter demonstration was lead by members of the Jewish community.

For context - The Metro is a sister paper of The Mail and that is a story that is nearly 2 years old about a comment in a busy room that most people in the room didn't hear.

I tell you where anti-Semitism is rife - in Saudi Arabia. And how do we as a nation tackle that? Yeah but arming the Saudis creates jobs apparently.

I believe membership of the Labour party has swelled over the last week or so again despite the Tory backed newspaper owners and the supposedly neutral BBC trying everything they can to smear and ruin him.

If Labour doesn't have a problem with anti Semitism , it begs the question as to why Corbyn is admitting it and apologising for it.

Look at the polices is a splendid idea. Currently we have a binary choice - Labour or Tory. As we had manifesto pledges last year - which Labour policies would encourage you to vote Tory? And which Tory policies would encourage you to vote Tory?

Harold Wilson wasn't offering left-wing Socialism back in the 60's and 70's.Jeremy Corbyn is.Simple.

Agree with you about the music back then, btw.:winking:

Edit. There was, of course, free, (abeit means tested), universal access to tertiary education back in the 60's and 70's.Many families (including my own) took full advantage of that to escape from a working class background.Bliar and successive Labour/Tory PMs ever since have made that much more difficult,if not impossible, for the youngsers of today.

it's a problem everywhere. And if asked that question you have the choice of acceptance or denial - i.e. a choice of two answers that you will be criticised for.

I'm not criticising the answer, it's a positive thing in my view that Corbym is now publicly admitting that Labour has a problem with Anti Semitism and apologising for it.

Albeit it may be too little too late for many.

And to say that Anti Semitism is a problem everywhere, doesn't make it ok...does it?

he has never denied it and it has been tackled but that doesn't mean it will be wiped out. And obviously if something is tackled now it doesn't mean a comment from 6 years ago won't be highlighted again now.
I'm pretty sure that you know I wasn't saying it was ok.

I usually find that if you want to use the "I am older than you and consequentally know more" line of argument, that you do so with someone who wasn't also alive in the 1960s and 1970s. So yeah, I was there so don't need a history book.

I've seen the mural, and you know, if it was the other way round, ie I (as a lefty) was screaming anti semetism at a Tory for having it, I'd be denegrated as a snowflake, or a looney or be told it was "political correctness gone mad" or to "grow a pair".

Glad your back Lordy. Seeing as others won't, perhaps you could tell me why we can't use the name Jezbolla or whatever it was.
