Jeremy Corbyn's Labour

Target the multi billion pound companies who syphon the cash to tax free havens, regarding schools being in a tax free bubble,I reckon most law abiding tax paying parents stump up enough cash through income tax, don't you agree.

Why not target both? Stop diverting the argument.

Private schools benefit from the government expenditure that any business benefits from - education contributing to a skilled work force, an NHS trying to keep people/staff healthly, roads and transport, a public research infrastructure etc. Why shouldn't private schools back something back?

Why not have VAT uni fees then ?

Why not. Books and newspapers do...No vat on them. Or how about a university education its compulsory to attend school but not Uni.
Yet another attempt to divert the subject.

"Books" and "newspapers" are subject to regular corporation tax.

The tax status/relief of universities is immensely complex and while it's true that you could probably say in general they don't pay much in tax, they are also subject to a large amount of terms and conditions that look to minimise social inequality and remain accessible. Also, university contribute enormously in terms of public goods such as public research. This can't really be said of private schools. Finally, universities are significant contributor to local economies, and bring in a significant amount of money into our national economy from overseas students (sadly less likely to be the case in the future).

That 'pointless link' is an IFS study which literally suggests that the effect on private schools would be minimal.

Yes it must be right because its a ...Study. Like the one that said only 50,000 migrants would arrive from the EU per year.

Ok lets go with your politics. Tax those snotty little rich kids because their parents will pay anyway because they value their education. Why not put VAT on funerals and cremations because I guarantee they are totally inelastic.

No they don't. Education is the last form of open discrimination. In fact its the only form of discrimination that has increased in the last 20 years.

It's a more educated projection than simply saying "I don't know".

Where would you send those additional revenues?

I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't saying that the average child was close to poverty, I was saying that we as a developed country are too close to that being correct if 1.7 million children are, as Barnardo's claims, deemed to be within severe poverty. You'll have to raise your concerns over Barnardo's claims with them.

As for someone having to pay for it, to paraphrase Mhairi Black, if Westminster can find £4 billion to refurb the Houses then we should be confident in their ability to find £x million each year for free school meals.

Don't think I did misunderstand TBH and free school meals are provided as far as I know to those who require them.

The vast majority of parents value their children's education whether those children are in the state or private sector. I object to the notion that any parent values the education of their children more than I value the education of mine.

No, the whole point is that there are apparently over 1m students who are in poverty but not eligible for free school meals.

That's what happens when wages go down and rents go up. Would have only got worse if we had voted to remain but of course we didn't.

I never said that and I certainly never said you because your a wonderful loving father who values his children.

Sadly I have been in flats where a puddle of dogs **** forms around your boot from the carpet. You look down at the baby crawling around amongst the mouldy half empty take away dishes and you know that parent doesn't value that child's health or education to the same standards as me or you.

:hijacked:

Your asking why 1m children are in poverty but can't get free school dinners and I'm giving you one of the main reasons. Now you try and silence debate because the answers don't suit you. Yet your telling other to grow up.

On the contrary, I saw DA on the box the other night and it was fairly clear (reading between the lines) that she's sick to death of Red Ken.

No just like you she refused to say whether he should be expelled or not. *** says he should go but if he won't resign should he be expelled.

As I said, she was quite clear that his case would be referred to Labour's NEC.

Labour is a rule governed political party. It was also quite clear that she's sick to death of defending him.

Having seen him on Newsnight the other night I can understand her frustration.
