Echo says we are looking at a young arsenal striker but sounds like lots of clubs after him. My feeling is no one will sign at such a late hour. Bit like the summer we have left it too late.

To be fair it's hard not to leave it late. A lot of clubs don't make decisions on whether to let players out until they've completed deals themselves. You end up with a load of activity just before the deadline as it's all a big chain really.

For example, Arsenal have only just decided to let this Stephy lad out on loan. This is what happens when the top clubs stockpile so many players.

I don't get why we aren't a more attractive propersition than either of those. Especially as we have Mavididi came through our youth.

Charlton are in London so not big difference for the youngster, and Ajose used to play for Swindon so knows the area.

Charlton and Arsenal have quite a fruitful loan partnership with Iwobi and Coquelin both going there and now first teamers.

Ajose - as I said before.. Charlton looking to get rid perm so if Swindon are buying they are going to accept that before accepting our loan offer.

What others have said, plus Charlton will have more cash and may pay more of his wages, and Swindon are Ajose's ex-club before he left for Charlton so can see why he might prefer to move there.

Bit like the summer we have left it too late.

Did we, though?

We signed several players, who have improved the squad, been major assets on the field and have brought out performances that we didn't know some of our existing players had in them.

Since that window, we've climbed from bottom to seventh in the table and kept a decent control on the budget.

If anything, the latest dabblings have proved that picking up someone now is not always a positive move.

Arent Swindon skint?

Surely we have a few quid in the bank to spend on Ajose. Cant see Swindon being able to afford mega bucks to get him back

They're certainly not loaded but they will be able to cancel any sell on fee or anything that Charlton would have to give them if he came here for example, added on to any add-ons/monthly repayments that they could still be liable for.

So from the 3 forwards mentioned by name:

Nicky Ajose - looks like he may be going back to Swindon
Stephy Mavididi - looks like Charlton want him to replace Ajose
Dominic Samuel - in talks with Barnsley according to Chris Phillips

Perhaps it's got more to do with Charlton not wanting Ajose going to a playoff rival rather than Swindon being a more attractive proposition.

Shame we havnt gone in for the lad at Dover, scored 27 in the conference, may or may not work out, but surely affordable and worth a try

I honestly think that the signing of Nouble is the replacement for Ranger. With Mooney back soonish we'll have 4 strikers for the rest of the season. I doubt we'll bring anyone else in

CP now confirms:
Mavididi has chosen Charlton.
Samuels will go to Brentford or Barnsley.
Ajose has chosen Swindon.
Eoin Doyle was another target but he's going to Portsmouth.
Inniss has returned to full training so a defensive signing is highly unlikely.
