I have a Grimsby supporting mate and yep their new ground is far closer than ours is and will be done way sooner IMO (not saying much I know). Think it’s all signed and sealed already as far as I’ve heard, just their takeover is dragging ATM. Bigger fanbase than ours to be honest and a lot of potential. Think Holloway will be a success there.

Does Grimsby really have a bigger fan base than Southend United in todays terms ???

Crikey, I know we playing crap and worst Southend United team / Squad in 120 years since we became UNITED but things are surely not that bad ;-)

Its not just the cost of land in our part of the world its availability. Other than FF there aren't many places you could have a stadium, academy, domes and all the trimmings unless you went out beyond Rayleigh, towards Basildon.....Not many people backed uncle Vic's idea all those years ago.

Plus and unlike some of those Northern towns, our council have never been under any voting pressure to make it happen. Half the town who follow the PL sneer down at us and many Blues fans have a 'It will never happen" attitude.

Then add the nimbys, which includes some season ticket holders and remember the planning was granted for the scheme that involved Sainsburys......Is it all really Ron's fault? What does Ron gain by stalling the project?

For what its worth I firmly believe the delay over the manger and Larrson nonsense was far more than just him becoming a manger. Larrson sitting next to Ron, trips to Sweden, the poor excuse of an assistant not wanting the job etc

The fact that Larrson hasn't taken another job means we may not have seen the last of him. Once the scheme gets the go ahead my money is on Ron selling up.....That would please a lot of you but i shall wait and see.

Yeah I’ve been to a few games with him and they take a strong away following to a lot of games. They are quite a long way from anywhere so have a strong catchment area compared to us with London on our doorstep. I know a lot of Blues fans hate them for ‘that’ game, but I like them as a club and wish them well as I go to a few games a season, including Col U away :)

We must be on the same wave length Rigsby.
Agree with you post.
On Larson though I thought the same thing as it didn't add up, as like the Bury owed match to season ticket holders, I pondered yesterday, I had another brain wave! What if Larson didn't want the managers job.. perhaps he and his gang wanted our club instead?
Just another thought putting out there.

I need a drink now I'm over thinking things. :(

I always thought the same. Seemed like the van Wezels were also involved in getting Larsson and RM together, and FVW is a long-term friend of Dirk Kuyt who was also rumoured to be involved in the Wycombe consortium before that failed.

I'm guessing Larrson as manger was just to get a foot in the door but the the rest of the gang were put off by the fact that it could be delayed or even blocked by the council and who knows what Rons price will be.

Rather than Larrson turning us down they used the assistant and then a delay in finding another one as an excuse.....That conveniently leaves the door still open for Larrson.

If Larsson didn't want the manager then why was he interviewing for it? Or was it going to be Jan Mjollby?

if there was a business incentive then the site to consider for catchment area and transport links ought to be near the electric station, rail line, A127,A130 atRayleigh/Rawreth; near where lots of new estates are going up, pnly used for bootsale type events or burning tyres at present.
Yes it is 7 miles outside the borough BUT maybe Essex Council would be more helpful.
Maybe get more fans from Basildon, Chelmsford and Benfleet areas too.
So far oof topic but bugger all happening ON topic.

That would be going back to Vic Jobson's idea. He wanted it in Basildon, but when told Basildon didn't want SUFC there, he mentioned looking at just after Rayleigh Weir.

We're not a big enough club to build a ground seven miles from our supporter base and live to tell the tale.

Plus imagine how **** the matchday experience would be. Pre-match grub from a hut next to the A127? No pubs for miles.

I'm already uncomfortable with the distance FF is from the town centre...

Sounds like Theo is returning, according to Frank nouble Instagram, he asked theo if he was staying and he said I fortunately not. Which I think is a good move as he is the only forward with pace.

He said unfortunately not, but that is not the end of it, McGreal wants to keep him and I think the chairmen are talking, so it depends what happens there.

Feel sorry for Theo. Been treated like dirt these last 2 seasons. Why would he want to return?

I would imagine a lot will depend on Hopper. Too be honest, I'd be tempted to cash in on Hopper now. This season is toast, no point keeping him on the wage bill especially if we can get a fee for him.

So if Hopper (or Cox/Humps) goes, then I'd keep Theo around. Otherwise I cant see the point - where is he going to get in the team? We have Hopper/Humps first choice, Kelman/Cox backup and Goodship who can obviously play up there.

I'd be making plans for league 2 in Jan and just getting rid of as many of our good (ha!) but wage heavy players as hard as I can - even above bringing anyone in.

if we look to sell then no point in Cox, last year of his contract so wont get anything (other than saving salary. Humphrys and Hopper will they play league 2, assuming we believe we wont stay up, then selling while we can makes sense otherwise after relegation people will believe we have to sell and we could potentially get less for them.

I am just looking at it from a financial perspective not what I think we should do

I can't see that Hopper is going to be worth much.
