Breaking News Jack Sampson signs on loan

In case you missed Kalala, was injured this is why we took him off.
We then shuffled the back four to suit us pushing Mohsni further up the pitch.

I actually would prefer to have Mohsni on in this situation (rather than Sampson) as he causes so much mayhem and gets in good areas.

For the record and incase of seeming like I have some kind of hatred to Sampson, I DO NOT. I think he will score some important goals this season, I hope he starts on the weekend, and I hope we can sign him on an extended loan deal!

Bah! SAMPSON HATER!! GET 'IM LADS...

Ridiculous isnt it? One narrow away defeat and we are back to "Sturrock is an idiot". Many of our 'fans' must truly be the most fickle bunch of supporters in the league, its pathetic.

Sturrock isn't in a rush to sign him ??? Sturrock has no chance whatsoever of signing him permanently. He is a current England U19 International and will probably change hands for millions in the future.

We may not have got to the top of the League by luck, but too many decisions like the ones he made Saturday and we won't be staying there very long.

Thanks for that Sir Alex.

Football fans in general mate. It's a results business. :hilarious:

Despite all of the arguing one fact to remember is the whole team were awful on the day and theres no reason to believe one 18 year old would have changed the game.

I think Sampson should have played a bigger part but think it was just one of those days and no point trying to pin a bad performance on one handy decision.

Wow talk about eveything being taken out of proportion. Sturrock has made plenty of spot on decisions this season which outweigh the bad by a mile but i have to agree with others that Sturrock got it wrong on Saturday.

For me Sampson looked different gravy in the 10 minutes he was on against Northampton he clearly is higher calibre than league 2, Benyon looks well off the pace (not to say he wont come good). I know who i would of started.

You are judging him on 10 minutes against tired legs against the worst team in the country. Sturrock made a judegment based on everything he knows. Id liek to have seem him start to be honest, butmaking judgements on hindsight is far too easy, and as I said above, still no guarantee it would have made a difference when the whole team is playing badly.

I've been wholely unimpressed with Benyon so far - BUT, dropping him isnt going to help either his confidence or the need to get him settled with us quickly. In hindsight, starting Benyon was the the right decision (IMO) for that very reason. Hell, PS even says he likes to sign players early and throw them straight in so they get used to our system and gel quicker (than waiting till 31st Jan - where it could be end of feb/march before the player is settled). Its smart management.

And as others have said, Sampson is 18 and it will do him no harm to wait his turn, no matter how good a 10 minute cameo was.

I think that is madness that you play a player for confidence. If a player is out of form you drop him. No one is bigger than the team. Granted give the players a chance to turn bad form around but there comes a point there potential ability on the pitch is not good enough reason to play someone. To start someone for the reason of it being good for one's confidence is farcical. It'd be good for my confidence too if Southend signed me and played me but it wouldn't be good for the team... Benyon doesn't exactly have the potential to be a world beater at this stage.

Is it going to do any better for his confidence to say "look, I know we've just signed you and paid for you and you've been here all of 2 weeks, but actually, you arent very good and we're gonna bench you".

Or...

"I know its hard settling in, but we believe you will come good, so stick at it - we are all right behind you."

Know which I prefer...

shouldn't this be in the transfer window thread?

I'm confused as to why people are so shocked that Sampson didn't start on Saturday. He played 10 minutes of football and is 18 AND as Sturrock isn't in a rush to sign him, he probably is going to sign a longer loan deal. He also wanted to bring him on earlier but couldn't due to an injury to Kalala. But ohwell I guess that means Sturrock is a clueless, hoof ball merchant who has somehow by luck got us to the top of the league. LOL.

Two out of three's not bad.
I cant agree with the bit that PS is clueless.I think he is a good manager at this level. But, you have to agree he is a hoof ball merchant and we have been very lucky this season.

I certainly don't agree with that. Yes we've rode our luck at times, but at others we've not got what we deserved. You don't get where we are through luck.

And all those lambasting Sturrock not bringing on Sampson, get over yourselves, he's the manager, he needed to bring off a defensive midfielder due to injury and decided to bring one on as a straight swap. He got it right at Northampton when you guys probably wouldn't have done, give the guy a break. Goodness me.

Were you at Shrewsbury ? Did you see how close Dicko was to being sent off ? Did you notice he couldn't put a challenge in for the last 20 minutes? All that was to teach Sampson a valuable life lesson ? How many current England Internationals have we played to the detriment of the team in the past ?

No I wasn't at Shrewsbury, but I sat at home shouting at Blues Player for Dicko to be taken off before he got a red and to put Sampson on. But the point is I am not a football manager and am not privvy to all that is done and said behind closed doors. My comment was merely a possible scenario for the day.

Not being pretty is not the same as being lucky. we have rode our luck on a couple of occasions, but on the whole we deserve to be at least top three, the table doesn't lie as they say

I think we grabbed him there and then for the month and we are going to keep him till the end of the season. Bed him in slowly, we have him another 3 months, get the best out of him in the run in.
