Not too happy about Brown, sounds like another Sturrock IMO.

Does not know the local scene, probably has not got many contacts in the London and South-East area.

While he has been out of work has probably been watching mainly clubs in the North

His signings will be players he knew from Hull and Preston days, Northerners who may not settle down here, Alan Little had the same problem.

Will not have a clue about the local non-league scene leaving the likes of John Still and others signing the gems.

His background is the complete opposite to Tilly and Webb who were our only recently successful managers and who built their teams mainly from our own area.

If he does have success with us he will be off like a shot as he has no affinity with this area.

Made himself look foolish with the half-time rollicking at Hull

I wish him well but wouldn't be surprised if he is not here this time next year, especially once he gets to know Rons antics!

Yet Paul Sturrock was still able to bring in players. Strange.

most of them were loans or most probably on the cheap and even if what you were implying is true it seemed to work out well for coventy and pompy buying in all those players with the money they have.

From the way he has conducted himself in the past I dont like him much either, but if he is to be the new manager we must get behind cos if we dont and we have a bad season we will be a massive part of that.

Impossible to say whether he's the right man for the job at this juncture. - My opinion is we had the right person for the job, but we've just let him go!

He is arrogant, and has, from what I can deduce from his interviews, a large ego - I don't have an issue with that though, i think you need to be a little bit like that to be a successful manager given the types of personality you are dealing with on a daily basis. That said, he has to be able to back that up with results.

My biggest concern, however, is his inability to get a team out of a bad run of form - when Hull went into free fall in their first season, they only just escaped, despite being in the top 6 for over half a season, and he could not turn around their form. At Preston, he started off quite well, but when their form dropped off, again, he wasn't able to stop their decline and bad run of form. I guess we'll be OK as long as we keep winning... any sign of a bad run and I think it could be curtains!!

Brown will ultimately be judged on his results ( as was Sturrock ) , but whenever I've heard him speak , he just comes across to me as very 'insincere'.
I am a huge Sturrock fan and so wanted to see him succeed and indeed stay and move the club forward , but although I don't like it , I do understand the reasons ( if not the timing ) for him going.
Just feels like we are losing a very honest gentleman and getting a second hand car dealer - but hope to be proved wrong.

I'm not watching (can't get east) but they've probably only gone off what they've heard on Twitter. The actual journalism that goes into shows like that is negligible at best.

Shame as AAS got a direct quote on the show.

Yeah I hear they read out one of my tweets. Not sure which one though. I'll get it on Iplayer tomorrow night.

The one that sited the point they were making about Sturrock not deserving the chop.

So, after the dust settled on this thread and some 9 months later and the key Xmase period having passed, how has he fared in your eyes? Where do the 102 fans who voted him as not being up to the job stand now? How does he compare with Sturrock?

Well, from what I've seen on the pitch and on the match reports on here, his style of football is certainly aesthetically more pleasing on the eye, and his style of football is getting us results, contrary to those of you who were suckered in by Sturrocks assertions that his hoofball tactics being "the best method" at League Two.

There were some who considered us "lucky" to have Sturrock, but Brown seems to be getting us results at the moment. In fact, season for season, Phil Brown has us one point ahead of Sturrocks efforts last season at exactly the same point in the schedule. Sturrocks next 14 games would see us achieve just 15 points before he was axed.

Phil Brown has taken us into the 4th Round of the FA cup, and despite the opposition being something of a shambles, you can'y deny the fact that he has still convincingly beat Championship opposition where we were ahead and dominating even before Easter was shown a red card. This for me is more of an achievement than the JPT, although I'm sure some of you will disagree.

I wanted to give Phil Brown until Xmas when we appointed him before judging him, and I think he's done a great job under the same circumstances as Sturrock and long may it continue. If he continues on the same form for the second half of the season unlike Sturrock who fell apart (JPT?), I'm sure we can look forward to at least a play-off place where I think I would be confident that Brown could take us into League One.

Well done Phil Brown!

So far, so good. Although I didn't vote on this thread I had my doubts at the time of his appointment and at the moment it appears my doubts were misplaced. However, there is still an awful long way to go and the challenge for Brown, the squad and us as supporters is not get too far ahead of ourselves.

Fair play to the bloke. I would have voted no had I of seen this thread at the time. Looks like he's proved a lot of us wrong so far. Long may that continue as well.

How does it compare with the season before when Sturrock got 83 points? Not sure saying 1 point ahead of last season proves a lot seeing as Sturrock got sacked because of that performance

Im happy with the season so far, who wouldnt be ? In a decent position and playing better football. If he manages to get 83 points like Sturrock did in best season we will be promoted. If we can be in the play offs Id be happy enough, but personally think at this stage automatics should be our target.

The Millwall game was a great performance and great result, but Sturrock beat quite a few league one sides in his time, and whilst Millwall are in the Championship they are in disarray at the moment. Thats not to take away any credit, but worth keeping a little perspective when comparing it to every thing Sturrock did.

I was sceptical when he came in as I wasn't sure he'd have the pull of players for a L2 side having never previously managed at this level.

Happy to be proved wrong.

Very pleased to being proven wrong and hope it continues, still a long way to go in the season.

Although it does seem this thread was brought back up just to bash Sturrock again so just to even it out, in Sturrock's 2nd season we had 49 points after 24 games - 8 more than Brown has.

Just wish that the Embargo could be lifted and he could be allowed to sign 3 quality players. These players would bolster the squad for competition and for strength in debt and I honestly feel that we are 2/3 quality players away from winning this league or at least sealing an automatic promotion place.

We try to play football in the right way and the season has been very good thus far, even more so when consider the restraints that they have had to work under.
