So quite a few Shrimpers now have their wishes and Sturrock has gone. Phil Brown has been unofficially confirmed as new manager, so is he the right man for the job?

I'm not going to write him off before he's even arrived and will get behind him from the off, but he's going to need to win me over as I'm not his biggest fan. What's everyone's views on this?

My thoughts from a couple of the other threads:

For me, the jury will be out until he comes in and shows me what he's made of. I'm a big fan of 'characters' which often means there are very few people in football (and life really) that I actually dislike. Sadly, Phil Brown is one of them - not that he'll care, I'm sure. However, if he comes to this club, he'll have a clean slate and I'll be looking for the positive aspects of his personality and approach before I focus on any negatives.

Weirdly, I've met him a couple of times before and never been impressed. The cunning stunt he pulled off by bollocking his Hull players in front of the fans at half time told me a lot about the man (you know the punchline!) and indicated a distinct lack of leadership - which, for me, by the way, is about setting goals and carrying people towards them WITH YOU not putting yourself on a pedestal and distancing yourself from the group. I suppose he may have been angry and frustrated which gets the best of all of us...

This is what I'm worried about. He is best known for that bollocking at half time which didn't exactly earn him many admirers. Who knows, maybe he'll drop down the leagues and 'find his level', but it seems that he is going to seriously have to win the fans over.

I'm sure Uncle Ron knows what he's doing

I don't think a sizable proportion on here have got over Tilson going let alone another manager coming in. Sturrock got plenty of stick on these boards over the time he has been here so all the anti Martin crap is a little bit lame IMO.

as regards to the vote, how about a "who knows" option?

Bit of a silly question IMO who really knows, give him a chance....if he is poop then the answer will be no, if he does well then the answer will be yes, as of right now.......I think its a brave man who takes on the SUFC job at the moment

Positive Phil Brown

Well lets find some positive for our new manager, lets look at his record......

Derbys a hard job, never really gonna get them anywhere as a club

Hull.... Took them up at Wembley play off final to the PL, then got sacked by them for not keeping them up... bit harsh, ie a Reading/Mcdermott situation

Preston, took charge of a club on the way down and they kept going in free fall after relegation, hard thing to pull them players off the floor after relegation, many clubs keep going on a downward spiral no matter who's in charge

Southend, it could be the only club he takes charge of where we are expected to challenge in the league, we are 1 of the top teams, so this is a different situation, he is expected to get results not like the other clubs where they were basically hoping they were gonna get results in difficult circumstances ie relegation & compete in PL etc.....

He is taking charge of a club who in the top 5, Ron's words not mine, he has never done that, maybe the exception of Preston, who had just got relegated & he couldn't pick them up..

im trying to be positive about this, anyone else wanna throw anything positive in

We have such a massive budget of nothing. In fact we have literally the biggest budget of ZERO ****ing quid I've ever heard of. It's some kind of world record.

Sorry, but it was nothing like the Reading situation. Hull were flying high in the Prem until he screwed it up by trying to be a smart arse through bollocking the players on the pitch in front of the fans. The rest of the season, they only won once and got relegated the following season.

Not a fan of him, but if he does become our manager then I bloody hope he gets us promotion. Rather have him than Steve Evans TBH!

Positive would be he has shown with all positions he has applied for he wants to start at the bottom and start a rebuild process again.
After how Preston turned out he needs to get back into football and build his reputation again.

The concern would be he doesn't know this level so will he be able to attract the players PS has in the loan markets? I think not.

On the plus he may tap up Big Sam for West Ham youngsters on loan

We need to carry on supporting the team.

Managers come and go, as do Chairman and players but we must support the club and the team --- as we have done for years.

An average panellist on Fighting Talk who has not worked in football since December 2011. Didn't he get overlooked for the Fleetwood job a few months back?

I wasn't happy with the Sturrock appointment, but I think he did a good job in difficult circumstances, so I will give Brown every chance.

Whether we agree with this or not, we must support the side, we do have an outside chance of the playoffs and a chance to win at wembley, therefore get behind the team, I wonder how many on here crying over PS going we're booing the team the other night, short memories I fear!
