Is our season effectively ended already?

Looking at the table there are clear groups emerging at the top and bottom that we are 7 / 8 points away from being a part of.

Realistically 5 of the top 7 are decided, (not the order of them obviously), 2 of the relegation slots are realistically decided with a decent amount of teams that are between us and joining either group.

I'm inclined to think that our season is effectively over and we will finish mid table comfortably clear of relegation but at least 3 points off of the playoffs.

Its looking unlikely at this time but some decent transfer movement in January and we may be able to sneak a play off spot.

It's not done just yet and 3 points at Braintree for back to back wins would be a good start.

In all honesty, I think our season was over before a ball was even kicked. The delay in COSU taking over killed almost any hope we had of having a decent season.

Never say never of course and COSU flexing a bit of muscle in the transfer market might give us a shot at a late run for the top 7. But, on current form, that has to be a very outside shot.

Not yet. Clubs above us may lose their best players when transfer window opens, at least one club will probably have a poor run of form. Other clubs will strengthen their squads (us hopefully) and we haven't hit a patch of form yet this season. So not over for me yet - lets see where we are at the end of Jan, both in the table and squad wise.

If we can hang on to the top performing loanees and strengthen a little further, then - no it isn't.

And another big factor will be turning Roots Hall into a fortress. We can all play our part in that.

Out of the top six, we have 3 sides, Barnet, Rochdale and Oldham to come to us whilst we visit FGR and, on the last day of the season, Gateshead (by which time they may have nothing to play for). Also Halifax and Altrincham at ours. So if we can up our home form, the second half of the season could be very exciting indeed!

In the league yes. We’re a classic mid-table ‘to good to go down but not good enough to go up’ side. All teams have good & bad spells but if you get to this point in the season and you’re lower mid table, that tells a story. There’s reasons for it of course, and it’s possible a couple of top signings could send us on an unlikely run to the play-offs, but right now we’re bang average.
