Interesting story in the Echo for all you Flavs bashers

Paul sansome still the best IMO, but darryl is proven at this level no doubt and well done to him, will never forget that save against norhampton in the play offs(our place) I still think its going in

glad to see the stats clearly backing Darryls ability - without doubt his experience has been telling in the last few weeks - where have noticed him giving Clarke and Barratt a bit of "advice" recently - looks like his confidence is back - and giving a bit of leadership across the backline.

I don't really buy the blame the keeper thing at free kicks - to me its the centre backs most of the time -

anyway do feel a bit for Collis cos he is obviously capable and deserves first team footy somewhere ...

Harry Threadgold would have played more games for us but he had trouble with the new floodlights that affected his vision. Damn the new technology.

Yeah, remember reading that in the SUFC book, what a legend Harry was. He really looked 'special'.

I met Harry on quite a few occasions at Roots Hall in the early 80's he would pop down the ground every couple of days & see Sid Broomfield and Joe Auger they would sit in the old groundsmans hut & talk about the old days! Dave Robinson also used to join them as well.

Although he was from Cheshire he settled in Southend and carried on living here until he died.

It's a bit unfair to compare the goal stats as a lot more goals were scored in Harry's day both for and against. Yes he did hate the floodlights & I suppose in those days they were not very bright.

Well done Darryl you absolute legend. No doubt he will go into the number one top spot next season for appearances.

Plus he is one great piece of eye candy for us women and perhaps even some men ;)

Boring fact alert. A former Southend keeper - Jim Stannard - is Fulham's all-time leading goalkeeper in terms of appearances.

I need to get out more.

Well done the little fella though.

.

Harry worked in my old man's yard

Also,, my missus cared for Harry as he passed away in the nursing home. Also in the same home was Alf Smirk who was a miserable sod who died of asbestosis.

I think I'd be pretty miserable too if I was dying of asbestosis.

Congrats to Flavs, a tremendous achievement, I'm sure he'll go on to become the number one apperance holder beat the legend that is Paul Sansome.

Woah, it's Sammy!!!!

If Darryl was a better keeper than Roycie, maybe he too would have been snapped up by a premier$hite club and set a premier$hite record for longest without conceding a goal.

Come on, accept it, he's the best ever and your beloved Collis will always play in the Essex Senior Egg Cup!

My dad fully agrees with dave smiths love child that Cawston is the best ever sufc goalie just before my time unfortunately

Going back to the mid sixties we have been blessed with more than our fair share of good keepers, starting with the welsh international Trevor Roberts who so tragically died at such a young age. I have witnessed every keeper from Trevor onwards and accepting that supporters of different generations will always have their favourite, in my opinion Melvyn Cawston was the best i have seen.

With the potential number of games left, don't think he'll quite equal the record by the end of the season, but it'll be close!

If he was to remain an ever present, then Darryl would be likely to break the record in September, even if we got to the play-off final.

Still, it's an excellent achievement by Darryl, and proof of what a fine keeper he really is!

Well done, Flavs, Southampton is proud of you!!
