Immigration

Didn't pick up on the name that John Mcdonnell cited (for the researcher) but it didn't sound hypothetical at all.More like something that was pretty much universally agreed by academics.

Certainly the open border debate is currently a big issue in the American elections.

More or less universally agreed. That's rather vague isn't it? Where's the evidence? Who are these academics? Got any concrete evidence that this will be the case in years to come or are you, like them assuming it to be so?

End of the day it hasn't happened yet and therefore it's assumed and therefore a hypothetical.

Google is your friend.

A cursory search will reveal a host of links making the case both for and against open borders.

Then if by your own admission there are a host of links both for and against it can hardly be deemed 'universally agreed' can it. And using your own rather quaint logic I could post up a host of links decrying the open border policy and the inevitable problems it will continue to cause and deem it 'universally agreed' it won't work.

Over to you..............................................

So these are hypothesis based theories? BUT not hypothetical? Now, Now Mr Barna are you fudging things a tad?:whistling:

Actually, I said "pretty much universally agreed."

Actually, I said "pretty much universally agreed."

It's not even that though is it?...it's not even agreed within the Labour party.

Based on extrapolations of existing trends I would have thought.

Haven't had the time to look up any of the research but I will eventually.

Would that be the trend that after years of open borders EU countries are putting up fences and closing them?

Schengen is finished IMO,

The Paris attacks prove open borders are great for smuggling machine guns with ammo, add the migrant debacle and it must be all over.

I certainly hope La Jonquera (the Spanish/French border) is open as usual in a fortnight's time, as I've booked a dentist's appointment for then.

Can't say I've ever seen any machine guns been smuggled across the border there, either.

All I can say is "thank god". This would have been a nightmare and would have flooded the country with low skilled immigrants. We have enough chavs of our own thank you very much, don't need the foreign ones too!

On the face of it £18,500 P.A. is not much more than minimum wage SO it is not such a high barrier: BUT those earnings would have to be declared and taxed etc which is what makes it interesting as the cash in hand casual worker may find "appearing" before a tax official/DSS and declaring such "wealth" a small inquisition and costly with back duty and the like.

I don't understand anymore. I thought...........and I'm sure many who voted Brexit thought..........that we were going to 'get our country back' by getting rid of or, at least, drastically reducing the number of foreigners here. Bloody hell! Brexiters, you've been had..........'quel surprise!'
So we can use the eastern european slave labour, until we train (force) our own people to do the work.........that won't be anytime soon!
