Ibehre-less

When is Revs due back?

Laurent can play up front but only alongside a targetman. When he was up front without Revell last year he found himself having to play with his back to goal and looked completely lost there. Whilst he now admits that he actually isn't a striker he played well there when he had Revs to do the donkey work for him. A Laurent/Barnard partnership should only be considered in an emergency IMO.

I'd start Freedman against Colchester and Walker against Orient. Experience at home and then raw pace away.

Raw pace? He aint THAT quick. If we want raw pace why not sign Linford Christie? I want someone who can put the ball in the net! We can only hope poor Jimmy produces a bit of magic like he did last season at Brisbane Road.
As for Doogies experience well no point if hes only going to touch the ball about 3 times during the game. He can do all the talking to other players he wants, but his contribution this season has been absolutely pathetic.
Why not give one of the kids a chance? They seriously cant do any worse.

Yep i'd try that Asante up top. I see him play for the ressies and he does look a decent prospect. Quick footwork, natural pace, an eye for goal. Everything our other strikers haven't got.

Walker IS that quick. He's every bit as quick as Theo Robinson, for example. He just never uses that pace.

Me too Beefy, we've got to start doing better on the road.....perhaps even Scannell up front.

And yes, his first few appearances where he came on as a kind of super sub he had lightning pace.

Anyway, it's alright saying 'give one of the kids a chance' but these are important derby matches that we're talking about and if gambling on someone who has never played at this level doesn't pay off (which it realistically probably won't) then that doesn't do anyone any good.

With us being Ibehre-less, probably for the best would this be the ideal time to try Francis Laurent upfront with his trickery and skill creating space for him and Barnard. Put Scannell on the wing and give him a chance to show what he can do. What do people reckon we should do as having Walker upfront doesn't make me confident and Freedman has gotten worse with age so it's likely his last season, best as a substitute.

Christ, there's been some real stupid threads started on here lately. What with this and "Trueblue" thread last night, i really beginning to wonder about some fans.
Laurent up front, been there done that, now we've found his real position out wide you wanna change that? C'mon guys, don't start a thread with a load of waffle!

No offence Shrimper on a personal level, i don't do that to people i don't know.

It can't be no worse than playing an OAP or someone that has proved time and time again he can't cut it at this level

Going back to my 'Balls' analogy I did come out and admit that I was taking crap, if you wanna question my support then fine

Freedman and Walker are better options right now than two kids who haven't pulled up trees in the reserves and have never played at this level. Saying 'Oh well they can't be no worse' simply isn't true. Of course they can be worse and almost certainly would be.

Walkers confidence is shot to pieces. He seems scared of the ball.

Freedman's last game, he didn't touch the ball once in the first half.

You can't really get worse than that imo. Even if the kids did play poorly, how catastrophic could it be? To me, Freedman and walker have zero influence on a game. Freedman is anonymous and Walker is too scared. I understand what you're saying, the kids could be terrible, but on the other hand, they could fit in straight away and look/play superb. You don't know until you try.

Agreed. I would say that after the next two games there may be scope for trying a youngster or two, league position permitting. But for the derbies coming up I think its unfortunately a choice of making do with what you've got - which means either freedman, walker or scannell. So as much as it pains me to say it I would probably go with walker at home, and go for 451 away, with mccormack grant and jfc in the middle and moussa and laurent pushing further forward.

It doesnt solve the creativity problem but nor do any of the striking options and it might just stop the constant away losses

Before Dougie pulled up at Carlisle, he'd played VERY well in the couple of games prior to that. I think everyone knows he can absolutely no longer last a whole game, even he, himself, but I would rather have a Dougie who can give me a decent game with some quality touchs for an hour and then be replaced by someone with a bit of pace than a kid with no experience - certainly against Colchester. Revs isn't an option, he's not available yet, even if he does return, so I say go with Dougie, even if it's only the first half. Of all our players he has the intelligence to unlock a defence, Macca tried yesterday but it just didn't work. He played both Laurent and Barney on where they should logically have gone, but didn't. Dougie and anyone of Barney, Laurent and Macca, a combination of these and we can have the beating of the Ewes next week.

Yeah sure you did and i certainly do not question your support.

It's just sapping reading the threads on here after we lose, people trying to put the seeds of doubt into other's minds but really you were just mightily miffed that we screwed up the chance of a point or two, then release your rage on here. I find it all really tiresome, having lost, then having to defend our choice of the manager at this time when we all know Tilly and Brush are the best.

Imagine Tilly with his experience of football at this level given a huge budget like Pardew at Southampton, he'd love it.
Instead he stuck with us and he loves us and we love Steve. Fact.
Get behind him win or lose and take it out on the players!

And don't take it personally Scott as we hardly know each other.
Love Sean.

This is the point i'm making though. In his last game how many touches did he have in 60 mins? 2? 3? He didn't have 1 in the first 45 mins. What i'm saying is, how can a young kid be ANY worse than that? I mean not touching the ball in 45 mins is proper crap. I suppose he was using his tactical brain and running into space/creating space/encouraging others etc etc. To me he offers little or no goal threat what-so-ever. This is backed up with his 1 goal in 18 appearences this term. Similar to Walker with his goal ratio of 0 goals in 13 appearences. I fail to see how a youngster would be any worse

Team full of wasters like walker who get bought for biggish money even after failing a medical. I dont think transfers are tilsons strong point, but a couple of additions would be welcome

I don't think Walker is a waster at all, he seemed to be pulling up trees with Barnard as we roared into the play-offs. Then he got injured.

I'm not sure. Laurent's best position is on the wing but why can't he use those skills up front? His end product isn't great on the wing, yes he can beat people but he doesn't get a lot of crosses in. Scannell has looked lively in a few recent sub appearances by all accounts. Freedman has been useless this season and seems to do best as a sub, I wouldn't mind seeing Walker start but if it's a choice of Scannell on the wing and Laurent up front or Laurent on the wing and Walker up front I think I'd go for the first. Walker is too often anonymous but who knows, maybe he'll have another moment a la Orient away last season. And yes it would be nice to see Calver at least on the bench and maybe even given a go. Could be a Roy of the Rovers moment, the youth team product coming off the bench in the local derby to score the winner. I'll leave it to Tilly.

Good news! We're tearing up Scarecrowft's contract, so he'll be available to fill all of your inept, non-goalscoring Orient reject needs :)

Freedman has at least one killer pass per game even if he is anonymous for most of the rest of the match. And let's face it - all of our forwards have seen relatively little of the ball this season. Barnard is the only forward who is really doing the business at the moment. We need to pray that he doesn't leave and get someone else in January.
