I have it on good authroity Fred deal is done.

Mirror says a £2m offer has gone in from Charlton. I would think £2.25 + decent sell on amounts to a very good bit of business for us. Remember we still have Harrold, Bradbury and Paynter to fire us back up next season, so that's practically all profit to go into the coffers.....

..and McDonald!

People seem to have forgotten we signed him!

Email from the Pilot - Copied and Pasted as follows

"Yeah Pardew was saying that he's going to get Fred on the cheap wages wise because he really wants to go to Charlton and not Wolves... Bit indiscreet chatting about it in a busy airport I thought!!"

Yes, very indiscreet indeed - not least because Wolves are by no means out of the picture.

I've been texting wrongun about the latest on the Freddy saga. As seasoned SZ-watchers will know, wrongun is very seldom wrong about these sorts of things. Wrongun has known Freddy very well and has done so for a number of years - indeed, the only time I've spoken to Freddy on the phone was when he called me from from wrongun's phone to talk about a particular story on the Zone.

Anyhow, wrongun has told me as follows:

"Fred is on his way up to Wolves now to discuss a potential contract. Southend have informally accepted an offer of £2 million - so now we're simply waiting on Charlton to up their bid. He could still go to either."

So, there you have it. There will be a few twists and turns yet in this story, and I certainly don't think that Pards will get his man on the cheap.

I also note that wolf1 hasn't been back on lately to admit that he was wrong in his belief that Wolves would get Fred for less than £2m. I think we all knew Fred was worth at least that - with a sell on to boot.

Good work by Uncle Ron.

:D

This could be good for us. With two of the leagues bigger teams in the hunt, it'll be interesting seeing what they're prepared to bid in order to get him - might push the price up nearer to £2.5 - 3 as the lack of decent goalscorers at this level is quite apparent.

Hence why I fear it may be sometime before we see another all rounder liek Freddy at our club. Still, some blood and guts and teamwork count for a lot, and he's never been the most easy player to partner, so maybe it'll usher in a new competitive edge amongst those strikers on our books?

I just hope we don't get a Bent scenario where he doesn't go to the club that'll pay us better to further his own career. It'd be fair enough and he deserves the very best, but I'd hate to see him opt for Charlton out of conveniences' sake (and promotion propects) if there was a more lucrative offer put in by Wolves. guess we'll find out soon enough...

Not if we've accepted £2m......

Seems a bit odd! I've registered on a Charlton forum where they mentioned Sahar - but they are concerned that no midfielders are being signed. Just seen today that they are also selling Faye to Birmingham who is a midfielder...

Cheerio Kevin Maher?

;)

I will be glad if he goes to Charlton, good manager and the only team out the interested that would be good for his career!

Lets hope the fee is good.

Until I see anything on the official site, I'm going to cling onto the belief that Freddy will stay. I know it aint gonna happen, but when he signs for someone else, I'm going to be upset. And I don't want to be upset. Not one bit. :(

Come on Chadded, just think of the fun we can all have on SZ in spending the £2m on Freddy replacements...

I disagree with that, how could joining Wolves be bad for his career! A team very likely to be challenging for at least the play-offs next season. If he did well there he would be in the shop window for Premiership sides.

I think Wolves would be the best move for him. He'd fit in so well into that team, not sure he would quite gel witht he others at charlton.
