Breaking News Freedman gone back to Palace!

Anyone actually sad to see him leave?

Personally, no - it's the right decision all round. He did occasionally show glimpses of the talent and vision he's always had, but without the legs and fitness, we only ever got to see half the player and half the output.

Sad that we didn't get him a couple of years earlier.

I echo the comments of my learned friend, Mr. Bank-Hank.

I am a little. I spent some time talking to him at a sponsors' evening last year and was struck by what an intelligent and articulate bloke he was - very personable too. Seems like a good professional and a good role model to have around. This opinion seems to have been echoed by others at the club - including several younger players who said that Dougie had stayed behind after training to help and advise them.

Although he was clearly past his best and "his legs have gone" his influence was clearly greater than what we saw from the terraces during his fleeting substitute appearances.

Admittedly with a threadbare squad we need people that contribute directly to the team on the pitch now, but I am sad that some are so quick to criticise Dougie without being fully aware of his all round contribution to our club.

Thanks Dougie and good luck at Palace.

Well said.

He was NOT at RH today!!

Well, if he was there, I doubt whether he'd be watching the reserves.....more than likely in the boardroom. Hope that it's true.......I did suggest some time ago "The Sugar Bowl" as the name for the new stadium. Perhaps he saw my post and that gave him the idea? ;)
More relevant to the thread..........sadly, no, I'm not disappointed to see him go. He was a player I have valued greatly during the years and I was quite excited when he arrived. What I am disappointed about is that, due to injury and age, we sadly never saw the best from him. Good luck at Palace.

It was patently obvious from the start of this season that he was gone at the game. If he'd been a racehorse, the green screens would have gone up a while back.

That said, I wish him nothing but good luck at Palace; when he wasn't struggling for fitness, he showed some real touches of class for us.

Try midway through last season.

Yes, and it's all DTS's fault for driving him out!:'(

Simply shocking behaviour from a hitherto well-respected SZ poster. He never use to be like this. I can only assume he's somehow been led astray and rest assured if I find out that the person who has corrupted DtS is a 'Zoner they shall feel the wrath of my rep.

It's all over the internet - looks like a done deal. Presumably we'll get some cash? When does his contract expire?

Sorry to lose Dougie from the club - his influence behind the scenes is spoken of very highly. Realistically though he is a luxury that we can't afford.

Good luck at Palace Dougie!

We're highly unlikely to be getting any compensation for him, but with a bit of luck he'll waive the money we owe him (wages? signing on fee?) in order to speed up the process.

With the past-it Freedman gone, the uncommitted Sanchez-Watt returning to Arsenal and the useless Joyce in the US, have we any dead wood left to get rid of? People may criticise Ron for not paying the wages, but it seems to help in getting rid of the wasters.....

Did alot of work behind the scenes and certainly brought Barney on leaps and bounds.
Good luck to him at Palace, I bear him no malice and still loved that last minute goal against Brizzle Rovers last season.

Good decision for all concerned. Frees up the wage bill for a good player sadly past his best.

Shame, 4 goals in his first 4 games and he was looking like a shrewd signing. Subsequent injuries exacerbated his natural decline, and after that he never seemed to be able to keep up with play.

I can't really comment on his influence on the dressing room for obvious reasons. He was probably a good influence on the likes of Walker and Revell, who took his advice and pushed on to......ah never mind. I jest, it was good to have an experience head amongst a young squad.

Yep, he was a great influence on and example to the younger strikers, plus he was an absolute gent. He'd also developed his game to compensate for his legs going somewhat and had looked pretty damn good last time out, as he did up at Carlisle. His footballing brain is second to none and he could identify weaknesses and work to exploit them which often benefitted others. Wish him all the best.

You mean that last minute goal that was struck on 57th minute mark ;)

Freedman has lost more than Revell has ever had. I am not sure why the love affair with Revell when he was clearly cack.

While I agree Revs wasn't the most technically gifted of players, his work rate and general effort was second to none.

He was let down big time by the club.
