Breaking News Freedman gone back to Palace!

You better be right or it'll be "Smiffy --- you're fired !!"

It was tounge in cheek stuff mate re: Sir Alan!

But, some good news is due next week, so I have been told anyway...

So, since Friday's game, we've lost Sanchez Watt, KFC (albeit for 4 games) and now Dougie. That's 3 players. WE don't exactly have a huge squad in the first place.

How many more loan players are we allowed?

Nothing on our OS yet! Would we expect compensation? After all they must have got a substantial package for Warnock, think we should get a small slice.

I bet Ron's relieved to get another high earner off the books before the end of his contract - when was that up?

This summer.

As I said in another thread, It's unlikely Palace would be able to spend any of the compensation as the administrator's first job is to pay off debts. We're probably ecstatic to get him off the wage bill...

In time-honoured ShrimperZone style I would like to be the first to start re-writing history following a player's departure. Dougie Freedman has been fantastic for us, I have never said a word against him, what are Tilly & Brush thinking of letting him go, this will be another Kightly, Hooper or Bradbury, just you wait, etc, etc...

Anyone actually sad to see him leave?

I am a little. I spent some time talking to him at a sponsors' evening last year and was struck by what an intelligent and articulate bloke he was - very personable too. Seems like a good professional and a good role model to have around. This opinion seems to have been echoed by others at the club - including several younger players who said that Dougie had stayed behind after training to help and advise them.

Although he was clearly past his best and "his legs have gone" his influence was clearly greater than what we saw from the terraces during his fleeting substitute appearances.

Admittedly with a threadbare squad we need people that contribute directly to the team on the pitch now, but I am sad that some are so quick to criticise Dougie without being fully aware of his all round contribution to our club.

Thanks Dougie and good luck at Palace.
