It's officially how is name is spelled apparently. I have been questioned on this on this site before, but when we first signed Fred, he actually stated that was how his name was spelt.

Think you'll find this was a misunderstanding. Freddy was asked how many D's were in his name and he answered one - Freddy however thought the Echo were asking about his SURNAME though not his first name. Been discussed on here before.

Still in the JPT and FA cup, lots of midweek and Tuesday games coming up and going to be entering the busy christmas schedule soon. I doubt Eastwood is going on loan

As Mr. Micawber quoted in a Dickens novel, 'I'll eat my hat' if he do's!. (obviously not referring to the current discussion!)

Britt is going back in January so will need a fit and fixing Freddy so if loan is to rediscover some sharpness then imam all for it.

It is possible if we get knocked out of both cups and Arsenal are still having striker issues, a short term swap with Theo?
Also possible is a Div 3 side that wants to give their squad a boost.....Orient? Stevanage?

IMO it would be madness to put him out on loan. Just because PS didn't want to sign him in the first place, I think he would just be making a stubborn point.

I agree with the previous thread that some people were crying out for Fred to come on with 20 mins to go on saturday. Whats the point playing him just a few mins to go, when it was pretty obvious it was one of those games we wern't going to score in a month of Sundays. BTW I would have taken of Britt as Tomlin was having a stormer.

I'd be very concerned that sticking Eastwood out on loan would be Sturrock's first step in ditching him permanently. He should be playing simple as that and we're gonna really need him in January when Assombalonga goes back. Freddy is too classy a player to be this under-used, I really don't understand Sturrock's stubborness on this one.

It must be down to fitness, that's all I can think, although when Fred has been called on to play a longer game, he's done so without seeming troubled.

Maybe because Fred is a Tilson player? Sturrock wouldn't touch him because of that, but obviously it was taken out of his hands as Lockett signed him (I think?).

What if, hypothetically speaking, we are unable to pick up Eastwood's wedge without Lockett's contribution?

I've never gotten this assumption. Sturrock built his first midfield around Anthony Grant after it became apparent he was willing to stay.

When Brit goes back in a few weeks time , i'd love to finally get Paul Benson in from Swindon. He's Southend through and through , runs through brick walls for his team + can hold the ball up as well as having an excellent scoring record. Di Canio hasnt picked him for a few weeks now .... Now Benson + Eastwood up front would be perfect ... with Corr + Tomlin ( + Harris) as back up. As much as i think Elliot Benyon could be very useful , his face clearly doesnt fit so would benefit from going somewhere like Ebbsfleet on loan for a bit.

Good point well made, though Fred was an integral part of the very good times and Tilson's untouchable legacy, whereas Grant wasn't even with us then.

Paul Sturrock is being stubborn in not picking Eastwood !

Some on here think FE was signed without Sturrocks consent,Always thought the manager was in control of 1st team affairs signing players he wanted and getting rid of players he does not want,This tried and tested formula has worked since the invention of the game yet at this club it does not apply.

The simple facts are that FE cannot get into a goal shy division 4 team for reasons many of us simply do not know !

Cause he was a tank

You could be right, one things for sure though if PS ditches Eastwood the fans will have something to say about it! I sincerely hope he gets a run of starts soon, only way to get him match sharp is to play him and if we can do that then a BBBC/Eastwood partnership could IMHO really work well once Assombalonga goes back.

Fred doesn't get in as Britt and Tomlin started the season fit and ready when others weren't, also they have been an often steady, hard working pair who have got some goals (should have had more!) and their performances do not warrant/deserve dropping them. Now I would like to see more of a 4 3 3 formation so Fred was playing.
