How about you wind your neck in. You jump on everything I say but this time have made yourself look stupid. Where in either Cambridge_branch's post or my post replying do we compare Freddy to Corr? NOWHERE.

I was merely corrected c_b's inaccurate post about Freddy playing in the premier league. I haven't even had a pop at Freddy. About time you stopped busybodying peoples posts.

Oh eff off! Even on this you have to get out the neg rep when emotion is at its bloody highest, sod off and jump on your next band wagon....Freddy is a total legend, and anyone who doesn't see that is a moron. You've had nowt but bad to say about him and you come over all sanctimonious here. Neg rep me as much as you like, Freddy is an SUFC legend, as great as any around today are every likely to see. You have done nothing but bad mouth him all season, feel ashamed.

Thought we were in for one last blast of Fred of old when season just gone started.Shame it didn't happen, but great to look back and remember. All the best Freddy in whatever you do .

I've told it how it is. Hasn't done a thing to warrant another contract and it seems Brown agrees. Loved him first time round but should never have come back.

Using words like 'bereft' because a player hasn't got a new contract is OTT. You leave words like bereft for when loved ones die, the ones you truly love and care about, not because a man doing his job hasn't earned a new contract because he wasn't good enough doing the job he was doing.

Thank you freddy for great memories! As a boy you were my hero, wish you the best of luck in whatever you pursue! Words can't explain how I feel, but the memories will live forever. Thanks Fred

Would have kept him ahead of Barney, think he still had something to offer on the right contract. But in Phil I trust
Yeah, I agree. Freddy or Barney? I know which one I would have chosen. The legend brought hope, spirit, and pride - and he's one of us. I'm not sure this was the right decision.

Four international goals would disagree. Think Phil Brown would have done too.

I wish Fred every happiness in the future, which I am guessing will mean retirement. Hope Fred Junior can give his Dad reason to hope and reason to believe and chance to be proud. Eastwoods belong at Southend.

I am so sorry to see Freddie leave, even this time around, when it is clear to everyone that the knees are not what they were, but the quick and creative footballing brain is still firing on all cylinders! On many levels it is awful, not least because he is a true club legend, and is still in footballing terms has a few more seasons left in him. I think that the club will be worse of without him, but we will survive, and he may be able to carry on playing elsewhere for a while, rather than be stuck perpetually on the bench!

At a slightly more financially secure club, or in a different era, keeping Freddie as the impact sub / experienced pro on the training ground would be a no brainer. However, much as it pains me to point out, SUFC is not in that place, therefore seriously difficult choices have to be made, and PB has been brave enough to make that choice, as unpopular and difficult as it is.

I wish Freddie all the very best of luck, and I hope he can do what he needs to do over the next few years. i really hope that coaching is a way forward, and I really hope that he comes back to the club in the future to share some of his skills and experience with Freddie Junior and his peers.

Freddie, thank you, for the memories, and thank you for bringing the hope and excitement with you when you came back. Good luck and au revoir for now. I, for one, will miss you!!

See DWB, that's how you do it!!!

We shall see.

I always said that if Eastwood wanted a contract he'd get one. He hasn't/ It really wouldn't surprise me if someone local-ish offers him one though.

Can OBL and Webby take their domestics offline please ?

Freddy's first spell with us was incredible. Debut, play off final and that second goal run and pass to Jupp, Swansea away to secure promotion, Man U are goals and events that will live with me for a lifetime. The ability he had in the lower leagues at that time was matched by few, Lee Trundle maybe. I'd like to think I was proved right about second tier being one step too far but he still scored goals at that level and yes it was only Wales and only a few games. But to bring those into the equation is slightly unfair and by no means detracts from the overall package we had. We have legends that never played at that level and never had the ability too.

I'd like to think he was only an injury away from repeating it given the way he started the season. From the limited games I was able to watch the class is still there. I'd like to think he'll join someone like a Canvey, Concord, Billericay or Chelmsford rather than just retire early.

Thanks Freddy

Barney is massively injury prone and IMO not the right fit for this team. We do know Freddy is done but I think he'd have been useful on a contract reflecting that he'd be an impact sub with maybe a few starts to cover injuries and suspensions. If not overplayed I think he still offers something

with respect he is there for goals. and hasn't inspired in that area as only an impact sub.1 goal in 6 months wrong side of30 and his knee is worsening. wont get any fitter and not getting any younger. worse still blighted by his knee. the reality of it all.

Did you see the first leg of the play offs, where Corr pretty much did everything to get himself sent off (again), Eastwood came on and looked like he wanted it, headed down for our best effort of the game! Yes Corr has scored a few, but he has missed one hell of a lot more!

ok corr missed a few but without the ones he did score i'm not so sure we'd be In play-offs. and he's not a natural scorer. so lucky for us he scored those. fred's record is 1 goal in 6 months

Remind me what Corr's highest achievement is?

I cannot truly express how I feel. Freddy has always been the first name on the team sheet for any "best of". We all knew that he wasn't the same player as he used to be, but his heart has always been Southend Blue, through and through. I am unbelievingly sad today at this news because, in mine - and many other people's minds, Freddy still had the capacity to wreak havoc and to cause opposition defences trouble. Barney just doesn't do that, nor does Corr. At club events, Fred leads where the others follow, he was the architect and the trail blazer.

I wish him nothing but the best, and I hope Freddy Junior can achieve and fulfil his father's promise. So sad, so gutted....really can't find the words...

Crowny has blues in his blood s o do we bring him back. Because a legend bleeds the colours is irrelevant to his performance on the pitch. he is there for goals and again his record is 1 goal in 6 months. there are other specialist players who can create but havin fred doing that would be an excuse to have him in the team. can't go on past glories nor the name.

Barry Corr's highest achievement is probably coming back from a severely long injury lay-off and being able to score on a semi-consistent basis. You cannot compare those two really as they have different playing styles.

Freddy might be the first team name on the "best of" side but it means naff all if in 2014 he can't cut it. If you believe he had that capacity to "wreak havoc" then where is it? I've not seen it this year since his run of 4 goals in August. Since then he's been poor.

You're hoping to keep him based on his past glories here. He was a great player for us but he isn't working now and it's time to move on instead of becoming attached to him.

And Eastwood both the place (and I used to live there) and Freddy (and his son I hope) will always be part of Southend.

Thanks for the memories. All of them.

Sorry to read this - Fred still remains a hero to me. :'(

Ditto. Hope he can find a club maybe at Conf level and play a few more seasons. There's life in the old boy yet.

Probably the player with the best touch I've ever seen at RH. Sometimes they way he took the ball down and controlled it was like ballet it was so graceful!
