Football Manager 2011

In the midst of one of my most enjoyable games at the moment...

Started out unemployed with automatic experience and took the Stockport job with them 22nd in League Two. Steered them away from relegation and, with the help of Ashley Grimes, guided them to the League Two title the year after that. Brought in some great players and had them comfortable in League One before being offered the Leicester job. Took that, and took Leicester from the League One doldrums into the Championship within 18 months. I left Leicester to take the ICT job up in Scotland and got them to within a point of European qualification before leaving again. 3 months later I was offered the Croatia job and took that.

Croatia are a piece of **** to manage, it has to be said. Four seasons in and the Luka Modric is joined by Rakitic and Badeji in midfield, Srna at full-back and they had two fantastic youth CBs to use, who were on the books of Palermo and Real. I knocked out England in the QFs (shock), Portugal in the SFs but lost to Germany in the final. I have my gripes with Germany on FM, because SI can't purchase the rights to portray their national team they're full of ridiculously talented regen players.

Anyway, I left Croatia afterwards and took over at Athletico Bilbao, completely forgetting that you can only sign Basque players. Big mistake. The Basque players available are either in the twilight of their career, young and inexperienced (read, shoite) or far too illustrious to sign for a clib like Bilbao. Regardless, I got them up to 7th before being offered the job at a stuttering AC Milan, who had somehow slipped to 17th. After gutting the club of all the aging, expensive players I spent one season bringing in some young talent before winning four trophies in three years.

It's now 2023, and I've just taken the Real Madrid job with a cool £250m to spend on transfers.

I feel like I am the assistant!
Great effort this! Updates please.

Played through the first few months of the season last night... The players I'm buying are all mainly regens, I've had great success applying a Moneyball-styled transfer policy (Only purchase U26s, try to aim for unfashionable nationalities playing in unpopular leagues and sell when they get to 28ish) and massive reduced the wage bill from £4m to £2.4m.

Bought some Scottish full-back who's average 7.44 in his first 10 games in La Liga, two CBs from Portugal who are outstanding threats from set-pieces, an English winger/forward from Arsenal who wanted to leave them (hence a cheapish fee) and one marquee signing of a Brazilian DM who's fantastic. I'll see if I can get some screenshots up later.

Lads - Help.

I keep getting offer a buy out of my sell out clauses but I cant work out how to accept it? Help

On the squad screen, click on the "Transfers" tab, then "clauses" just below the "Transfers" tab. Click on the clause and there should be a "buy out" button at the bottom of the screen, with information on how much you will receive.

Just had this season with Real Madrid...

The OCD in me is going mental. Just one defeat and a GD of +99.

Yes I am, you are aware of things that distract from Assignments, FIFA has already ruined it, luckily I'm in my first year.

First year (and arguably second year) you can get away with it. Not saying that in final year I still didnt spend hours on end getting southend into the prem on FM, prestiging on CoD and building my ultimate team on FIFA.

FM was my revision companion (this is how I convinced myself I was allowed to play it when building up to exams). I went with the rule of every time you are in a match or are waiting for the next day to load, you can learn stuff. Then when it's loaded or the match is over, take a revision break. Somehow i got a 2.1...

I like that.
When I have an assignment, every paragraph I allow myself to play a game of FIFA. It's a bit of a long winded approach, but it seems to work!

That worked for me until I got a decent laptop which processed the game rather quickly, even with a huge database. I so could have gotten a 1st on my Dissertation....

After hauling Hereford away from 10 points adrift at the bottom of League 2 to a 14th-place finish in my first season, I am now sitting 4th after 13 games, 3 points off top spot, which is presently occupied by Shrewsbury.

Will probably post some screenshots or a half-season review soon.

I've ventured into Russia for the first time as Spartak Moscow. Signed Willian and Eden Hazard with the transfer budget given, and thought I was well set to fire in the goals with my favoured 4231 formation. Get to the first game of the season (transfer window closed) and find out that they have a rule that a maximum of 6 foreigners can play at any one time. Their best existing players are foreign (Welliton, McGeady, Alex) etc and it turns out I've 12 of them in my squad. Bugger.

I got caught lke this as manager of Juve. I signed some OK lad from Brazil as a prospect but then I wanted a few top Brazilians. I agreed deals t bring in Neymar and Paulo Henrique from Santos only to find out its one non european a season.....gutted...

ASDA do not do PC games apparently, so that plan is out, when I went in there on the way to work. Looks like it's Currys for me tonight. I have a weird obsession with it already and I haven't even played it yet, that is a very very bad sign!

You could always download it from Steam otherwise Dave, then you dont need the disc to play.

That means I don't even have to wait to play it, what a marvellous idea. Maybe the use of the dreaded utorrent.
What is steam and how do I go about this? I presume it runs the same?

Steam is a digital distributor of games, install it, create an account, buy & download the game.

http://store.steampowered.com/

It is mostly great. If you want a game no need to wait for to be delivered/go to shop, you can install the games you own on as many computers you want and you can carry on your saved games. They have great sales on games pretty regulary and take all my money (Do I really want Borderlands GOTY for 75% off?...).

Downsides are you need an internet connection, prices of new games can be a little bit more than a normal shop, if your internet connection is slow it'll be quicker to go to shop/wait for delivery, or if Steam itself just doesn't want to work.
