It was a landmark film for it's time.Probably a bit unfair to judge it by modern standards. There's a reason it was in black & white, you know,Sadly about halfway through it--It runs out of steam......There are very mixed reviews of it on Imdb
Lack of funding? It was a nlandmark film for it's time.Probably a bit unfair to judge it by modern standards. There's a reason it was in black & white, you know,
It was a British film of course but most British films of that era were also made in black & white.Lack of funding?
"Back in the day of physical film, before digital took over, there was a big difference between the cost of processing and reproducing colour film and that of monochrome. Black and white is a simpler, more forgiving medium to process, and the film stock is cheaper too."It was a British film of course but most British films of that era were also made in black & white.
It was a low budget affair from Anglo-Amalgamated, not a major British studio. Bogarde and Harvey probably accounted for a big slice of the budget. Black and white was still fashionable then on the continent with Godard, Bergman etc still favouring it so it was not out of step. As a depiction of 'Swinging London' and that time in the 60s it still holds up imo but very much of its time."Back in the day of physical film, before digital took over, there was a big difference between the cost of processing and reproducing colour film and that of monochrome. In your opinion (and anybody else) what was the best film for showing "swinging London"?It was a low budget affair from Anglo-Amalgamated, not a major British studio. Personally I would have thought Blow up was pretty successful. You could also make a case for Lindsay Anderson's If ,I suppose. In your opinion (and anybody else) what was the best film for showing "swinging London"?
'Smashing Time' 1967. Satirical comedy with Rita Tushingham and Lynn Redgrave. Perfect send up.In your opinion (and anybody else) what was the best film for showing "swinging London"?
