Films you've watched recently.

Legend 7/10 - Tom Hardy's acting 10/10. His acting and some of the scenes are excellent but I think the overall storyline was a little poor. The Krays have so much history and a great story and it wasn't covered brilliantly as it could have been in this film.

I'd agree on your ratings, Hardy was excellent. If you enjoy it as a fictional account then it's a good film. It's spun as Reggie being a nice guy who struggles to control his mentally ill, pyschopathic brother, who is also portrayed as a figurte we should feel sorry for. All in all it's very sympathetic to the Krays and I don't buy that at all. Like I say though if you treat it as a work of fiction, which it pretty much is, then its a good film.

"The Rack Pack" - A decent little film, even if your not into Snooker, like me. You get a straightforward insight into how Barry Hearn and Steve Davis came onto the scene and made the sport grow to massive heights. Also delves into the rivalry between Steve Davis and 'Hurricane' Higgins. Not a bad film.

7.3/10

How was Higgins portrayed. I believe he wasn't too popular with the other pros.

He was total mess, was Higgins. Very cocky in a bad way. Got too big for his own boots. Eventually was gambling, had affairs, was on the sauce first thing in the morning. Believed to have smoked 60 cigs a day. Which explains why is character in the film had a fag in his mouth in every scene!

A sad shame really, cause he was a fine snooker player.

Sounds alright, see it's on iplayer so might give it a look. No interest in snooker but also had no interest in F1 and thought Rush was a great watch

Saw Gumshoe again last night.Wonderful 70's British parody of American film noire with Albert Finney , Billie Whitelaw and Frank Finlay (all excellent).

Forgotten it was (probably)Stephen Frears' first film.

Going through a bit of a Tom Courteny kick atm.Dug out the excellent Billy Liar for a repeat viewing last night.

What a wonderful film it is.John Schlenger's first (IIRC)and certainly Julie Christie's.

Spectre - 7/10 - Nowhere near as good as Skyfall and very boring in places. Not the best storyline but it's alright.

Creed - 10/10 - I'm a massive Rocky and Boxing fan and thought this film was brilliant. Tony Bellew is excellent and so is Michael B Jordan. Stallone as usual is brilliant as Rocky. The storyline is good and it's just a great film throughout.

So I've got one, at a push two, chances to get along to the cinema.

There are three films I want to see. Creed, The Revenant, Spotlight.

What should my ranking be? I'm thinking Creed, Spotlight, The Revenant. But maybe Spotlight is better for a DVD night at home?

Well apart from the two films she made before Billy Liar...I won't make the obvious response to this!

I walked past a shop selling Fahrenheit 451 the other day for a fiver - I regret not buying it now.

Not even close to being Schlesinger's firrst either - He did A Kind of Loving before it for a start!

Not seen any but Revenant - it is beautiful to look at, so probably best for the big screen, but the film itself is just ok and overlong.

Seen revenant and creed, i'd go creed, the Rocky format still works and this time it's actually well acted! Even Sly is brilliant, think he's suited to playing a punch drunk retired boxer, think it might be his best ever performance

Good points very well put.

I posted this a little while ago but it's worth a repeat.

Spotlight - 9.5/10

A truly absorbing film from start to finish with some excellent performances, especially from Mark Ruffalo. I got hold of a BlueRay pre release screener and cast it to the TV and it's one of those films that makes no difference what size screen it's watched on. It's all about the story, the script and the actors and all three in this are spot on.

A must see and highly recommended.
