Breaking News Facilities Update - North Bank (NWQ) X block now open

Fantastic news and well done COSU.

Without knowing exactly how much has been spent, and assuming Charlton sell the vast majority of their tickets, I guess the increased revenue means the renovation practically pays for itself?

Smart.

This is what I posted in another thread:

No they won’t.

The gate receipts for this tie are split 45% to us, 45% to Charlton and the remaining 10% to the FA towards prize money etc.

With the increased away turn out, they will in turn mean additional staff, a larger police presence (which comes out of our pocket) and so forth.

Of course, over time and filling this part of the stadium means it will pay for itself, but it won’t purely from this fixture.

Where there's a will there's a way! Congratulations to all those involved in achieving this. I know for some their attention is always on what's happening on the pitch, but what an example of what COSU are trying to achieve for our Club!
From another thread but would also like to add how this type of progress helps restore the pride 😤 levels in all things Southend United

The key point it was planned to be done by Boxing Day anyway. So the comparison is what extra revenue comes from this games verses the extra cost (if any) of completing a few weeks early.

Charlton will 100% help.

However, it all depends on when we will be housed there. Our home fixtures between now and then, as stated, aren’t going to bring the numbers, so that part of the North might not even be used.

The work was being done anyways, but we’ve spent more now, to get it all done in time for this, then we would have if we carried on as normal with it.

I was given to understand that X will be included in the uprate in capacity, certainly going forward in the near future.

Good news about the caterer as well, have used Eat Street regularly in the past and have always been impressed by both the quality and price of their offering, a good local business.
Do East Street cater in the East Stand, block C?

Since my update in September regarding our facilities, we’ve been working diligently to implement our short-term facilities strategy. This latest update focuses on the North-West Quadrant (NWQ) and the west side of the North Stand (yellow seats).

Our original goal was to secure certification to reopen the NWQ and north-west yellow seats for our Boxing Day fixture, which would add an extra 1,400 seats for home supporters. However, drawing Charlton Athletic in the Emirates FA Cup First Round provided an opportunity to expedite the works, enabling us to increase our away capacity for this match and generate additional revenue by raising the usual away allocation of 815 in the north-east blue seats section.

Today, we received sign-off on the works from the Southend Council and Essex Police, allowing us to provide Charlton with an additional 1,100 tickets.

Going forward, we’ll return the NWQ and NW (yellow seats) sections to home fans, with full details coming soon. Supporters can look forward to refurbished toilets, refreshed facilities, a new bar, and an enhanced food selection provided by Eat Street.

We recognise that other areas of the stadium also need upgrades, and we are committed to continually improving all stands.

The completed works will increase our stadium capacity from 8,500 to nearly 10,000; a significant boost for the Club.

A huge thank you to Bernadette Bowden of Southend City Council, Keith Baker of Essex Police, Mick Maddocks at Emersons, Alan Reeve of Complete Construction, Ross Ebner and RCE Garden & Property Maintenance, and Michael Day at Solopress, along with their respective teams. Their collective efforts were instrumental in securing the necessary approvals.

Bloody marvellous 🤩

This is great news and ahead of schedule. It is so much nicer to see our club being taken forward instead on being driven into the ground. Well done COSU and a special mention for TL for all his hard work getting this sorted as i know he was in that area working himself on things to get it up and running.

:Worthy:

Birmingham at home in the next round will also help..

I thought the original plan was to have away fans in the northwest corner (V shaped yellow seats) and for the north bank to be replaced first.

Am I right in thinking that the club are now thinking of making the ground right and the bulldozing and replacing the east stand.

It all started with that passion from Kev's boys and the mad lot in the stand down at Eastleigh, please keep this momentum going well done COSU superb.
Cant wait to get back in our home at home.
