Interesting team selection today: Goldleman dropped and replaced by wicketkeeper Adam Wheater who plays as a batsman. Micklebrugh moves up to open.

A rather wayward looking attack of Masters, Tsotsobe, Wright and Phillips. Would much rather have had Masters, Chambers, Napier and Topley.

I didn't realise young Tony P had gone to Derbyshire.

My namesake is being Tavaresque... 9 off 54. Or a run rate of 1 run every six balls. Lordy. At least we've progressed slightly to 75/5, but it has been a pretty shocking morning, all told. Against Derbyshire, for goodness' sake!

Delayed start plays into Essex's hands as it means Masters can bowl unchanged into the afternoon as he can rest at lunch.

He's just picked up two wickets in an over, dismissing the nightwatchman Palladino and the talented but inconsistent Durston to give him figures of 4/27.

Derby's probably the ideal ground for him (and also for Tony Palladino, which is why I think him moving to Derby was a good move for him) as he'll get movement. The trouble is, at the other end Wright and Tsotsobe are too inaccurate to keep the pressure on. Think Topley would have done well here had he not been at school.

Tsospot going at nearly 6 an over in a match where 140 overs have been bowled for 400, whoever scouted this bloke needs shooting

We got them to 206-8........................they're now 258-8...........................Jesus! Takes Bopara to break the partnership...........261-9. In the context of this match I reckon a first innings lead of 85 is pretty useful.
288 all out!!!:stunned:.............let's look on the bright side...............possibly time to lose a couple of wickets tonight! GOD!!! we survived ten overs without losing a wicket!!!..........24-0.

We conceded over 50 extras, including 22 no balls!!! That is a disgrace, especially in a low scoring match. You would have thought with a bit of England influence around the side (Gooch / Cook (and formerly Flower) they may have learnt something from the discipline Englands bowlers have shown in cutting out extra's and keeping run rates down.

We really need some big innings to set up a win, otherwise we have spectacularly failed to capitalise on Cook and Bopara being with the side for the first month of the season. Tsotsobe....how on Earth is he near the South Africa team?! (Quota's?!)...

It's 2 runs for a no-ball in the CC, and Tsotsobe so far in his Essex career has been bowling a no-ball every over. He's awful.

Essex are 98/2 - 11 runs behind with Cook & Pettini back in the hutch.

Incidentally does anyone know if Essex have signed Tsotsobe for the full season, T20's apart?
