A good week for Essex continued with a great 7 wicket win against Notts yesterday in the CB40, contributions with the bat from all the top 5 and Fozzie and MtS winning the game with an over to spare with a partnership of 108 from just 65 balls. Lancashire today, hopefully the momentum can continue.

Listened to commentary on the last quarter of the game............an exciting match which, at one point, looked as unlikely a victory as our run race to beat Glamorgan. The side should have recieved a massive boost in confidence from those two victories which may help us in a tough looking game against Lancashire today. At least we're not playing Somerset:smile:................how did we manage to end up in such a bloody tough group?

Hate to rain on your parade Yogi, but i must tell you we've drawn Somerset in both our CB40 and T20 groups this year, so 4 chances of a bloody good hiding ....

That said if we perform like we've done these past two days then i'd actually be confident of seeing them off ..

Yesterday Notts won the toss and decided to bat, that seemed wise as they looked extremely confident on a pitch which offered the bowlers next to nothing, we didn't beat the edge or even rap them on the pads (1 LBW shout the whole innings IIRC, mind you that was successful !!!) we were trying to decide if it was the pitch or the bowling, as ever you can never tell until both sides have had a bat but the fact their top order got themselves out through poor shot selection didn't auger well for me .. Tsotsobe looked hopeless in the main, most of his over went for double figures though then he dropped a couple in going for just 3 or 4 and looked decent

287 was about 30 too many for me and even after a lively start by Cook and Pettini i wasn't hopeful, and after losing Cook and Bopara (who both looked in great touch) for the addition of ten runs i definately thought we'd blown it .. Foster and Walker had to steady the ship, which they did pretty quickly but still the rate was climbing past 8 and 9 and near 10 .. batting powerplay 11 18 13 13 .. 55 in 4 overs leaving us 38 in 5 overs, piece of ****, game over :loyalsupporter:

Today was pretty similar really, it was even played on the same pitch i think, we won the toss this time and (with knowledge of yesterday i'm sure) we put them in .. a confident start, 87-0 in 14 untroubled overs, a silly reverse sweep gifting Phillips the breakthrough and they were on the slide .. Tsotsobe though far from being "good" was infinitely better than yesterday and picked up 4 .. like yesterday Phillips and Ravi totally strangled the middle overs, squeezing the momentum both sides had built against us to nothing and from looking like chasing 260 they subsided to 190 all out and although Petts fell cheaply and Cook gave it away Bopara and Foster were immense, the only pity Foster charging Kerrigan to get himself stumped

On this form Ravi will be in the next England squad without a shadow of doubt, and whilst i support England i'd still rather see him pulling on the Essex sweater

Great news!.............well, I suppose you are only going to get better if you play against the best. Did I over estimate Lancs .......perhaps they are no longer the force they once were..........or was it just a good toss to win? Anyhow, all in all a bloody good week that has somewhat lifted the gloom of the start to our season.

In reply to points above .. for me Chelmsford has to be a bowl first pitch, as no matter how many the oppo score it is always chasable ..

well with the odd exception .. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/cricket/counties/article4208114.ece

i even remember us getting 93 to beat Sorrey in a 5 over slogfest once so i spose it could be a bit win toss win match but Notts didn't follow the rules so tough titties to them, as for Friday in front of the cameras .. it was always a fact we'd perform abysmally on the telly but i think we've turned that around somewhat, i'm more inclined to go with the law of averages theory that we've both got a 100% record this season (ours a winning one theirs the opposite) so we're bound to lose

For all you armchair Essex fans out there Sky have once again chosen to heavily feature the greatest side in the land this summer

Friday 6th May .. Glamorgan (a) CB40 Floodlit
Monday 13th June .. Sorrey (a) T20 Floodlit
Tuesday 21st June .. Glamorgan (h) T20 Floodlit
Thursday 23rd June .. Hampshire (h) T20 Floodlit .. double header with Eng v NZ women T20 Int
Saturday 2nd July .. Middlesex (h) T20
Wednesday 20th July .. Glamorgan (h) CB40 Floodlit

Excellent signing!

This evenings game has been rained off. Glamorgan made a tricky total of 222-7 but we didn't even get a chance to bat for a ball....

Congrats to Graham Napier on taking the first Essex Hat-trick for 40 years, just a shame the weather intervened to stop us attempting a very gettable 223 in 40 overs, or even a bit more tricky but ultimately doable 86 in 10 .. our next 2 games are home and away games against the "unattached" players that form the Unicorns .. talented as they may be they are without a county for a reason so i fully expect us to pick up maximum points and head into the mid season break top of the table :loyalsupporter:

Lee is the hat trick stat for one day or all forms of cricket? Just
Shame about the Welsh weather, and as you say 2 games against the Unicorns should see us remain unbeaten in the CB40. Wes Durston did enough for them to earn a contract at Derby last season.

Oh bugger, where's YB when you need him most !!!

I got the stat from the Sky broadcast, the ones that believe football was invented in 1992 or whenever they took over so i'm afraid i cant confirm H mate
