Essex CCC 2019

I've always admired Graham Napier. A lot of people remember him for his batting and destruction of Sussex? that time but I was always more of a fan of his bowling especially some of the yorkers.

James Foster was also one of the best wicket keepers I have ever seen. Makes me die inside when I see how poor Bairstow is with the gloves. Shame Foster never played for England a lot. Did he not break an arm when he was called up?

Funnily enough we are just talking about this at work. Bairstow not in the England squad for NZ tour. I got all excited hoping that Foakes would be coming in but Buttler is taking the gloves, another very average WK IMO.

Back on the Essex subject, Wheater has impressed me this season. Took a great catch this morning and also another great one at the weekend.

Fozzie had Alec Stewart to oust and although he was better with the gloves, Stewart was the better batsman.
That’s the modern game for you.

Day one over and only one session possible. Probably play in the morning today and then afternoon the rain returns.
Day three could start with Somerset still in their first innings and still needing 20 Essex wickets. Depending on Essex not getting bowled out for nothing, Somerset will have to gamble and give Essex a total to chase which will be very doable.
Will Essex take the bait? It’s nothing if not intriguing but as it stands, it’s ours to lose.

I to was convinced Foakes was somewhere in the squad. Maybe Ed Smith had too much sun and corporate champers at Edgbaston on Saturday.

Consistent light drizzle here today and forecast isn’t great, after a lot of rain overnight.

I would be very surprised if there is any play today at all. Might get a few overs in here and there if there is a break in the rain, but the outfield will also be very wet too.

amazingly its Brightened up considerably down here, im about half mile from the ground although outfield very wet still, early lunch and then play this afternoon.

And Sam Cook now took 4
Certainly not discrediting little chefs efforts. It does seem like as the days go by this will turn more and more and it'll be Harmer vs Bess & Leach that will decide things. The bookies have gone from draw being the odds on favourite result 1st thing this morning to an Essex win now being favourite. It is looking more an more like we'll get a result. A nervous couple of days to come!

I make Somerset favourites.

Both teams wanted to bat first on this pitch for a reason.
