177-6, Tendo gets rid of Rossington. Azharullah doing a good NW job for Northants...

Edit 181-7, Tendo gets another one....

well that was one hell of a result, early days but we certainly seem more galvanised under Silverwood! Will happily admit that I was wrong in thinking he'd be just another continuation of Grayson

Yes, excellent result. Silverwood already seems to know more or less his best side which makes a refreshing change. Encouraging early days.

Indeed. I have in the past two seasons seen Essex finish the season strongly, but miss out because they left it too late. This season they have started well. Let's hope they can keep it up.

we've started the season really well, let's hope it continues.
i don't want to over-claim and say that we've turned a corner with Silverwood but we seem more ruthless and less willing to let things drift.

It helps that we have Cook, Bopara and RtD all available: one of Silverwood's successes was in getting RtD and Bops to commit by dangling the captaincy (helped by Ravi not being selected). Hopefully it won't fall apart when Cook goes on international duty.

Currently 449-7 away at Worcestershire. The problem is that they, once again, lost a lot of time to the weather. I think they ought to declare at lunch, giving themselves 5 sessions to bowl Worcestershire out twice. They can't do it again can they?

Ideal to have players who are good, but not in much danger of getting picked for loads of internationals. E.g. when Surrey were very strong at the turn of the century, they had the likes of Ward, Ramprakash, Bicknell, Ali Brown contributing heavily.

We all love Ravi, but it is difficult to see him getting back in the England side, so hopefully he'll be bossing it for us all summer.

Our batting looks really strong. The batting averages of the top 7 are above the relative batting averages of all the opponents so far.

Meanwhile, Leicestershire are well on top against Sussex. Mark Pettini 142 not out.

And Worcestershire and 131-0. This is going to be a draw.

Trouble is, if they get past 300, we can't enforce the follow on, so we'd have to rack up 100 in about 10 overs.
