England V India

England deservedly number one.

We've beaten every test side at least once by an innings in the last series we've played against them.

Dravid's dismissal - one for the 3rd umpire review system.

Oh dear its not in place as you dont want it.

Shame.

Dravid could have reviewed it. It's only lbws that can't be reviewed in this series.

It looked like Tendulkar talked him out of it.

Currently England only want to bat once a match such is their dominance. Long may it last.

I thought it was only if the ball had carried behind that was being used in this series. :sherlock:

Nope, see Sehwag's dismissal in the first innings where England reviewed it and he was shown to have gloved it behind (there was no question that it had carried to Prior).

Wow, some particularly graceless - almost Australian - losers amongst the Indians in my office.

One of them went off on one saying 'England had never won a World Cup in anything ever' (World Cups in 1966 and 2003 were gently pointed out) and then started laughing about how England had invented cricket but never been number one. When it was pointed out that the Test rankings were relatively new, he was adamant that they'd started about fifty years ago (which they didn't).

On that last point, had the Test rankings started after WWII, I assume England would have been number one at least a couple of times? Mid 1950s and late 1960/early 1970s?

Wonder if the Indians have got some twilight golf booked over at The Belfry. They'll have no problem getting the full 18 in.
By all accounts, Prior was chirping something along those lines to Mishra. When Mishra then slogged the next one for 4, Prior chirped that if they kept that up for another 2 days they might have a chance :hilarious:

haha good stuff, does Prior sledge much? I never thought he did really.

haha just found this...

and he is also the man credited with the crassest of sledges, reportedly saying to Sachin Tendulkar, "I drive a Porsche, what car do you drive?"

That Porsche comment ... why would I say that to Tendulkar? He's got aeroplanes.

"What happened was that we'd had a long day in the field the day before, and I said something about keeping our npower energy up, which was picked up by the stump mic, and because npower were the sponsors, there was a bottle of champagne in my kit bag the next day. Well, at the time Alastair Cook wanted a new TV, so next day he's at short leg going 'Bang & Olufsen, Bang & Olufsen, great televisions' and I think Porsche Carreras are great cars, so that's why I mentioned Porsche.

The Test rankings are a fairly recent innovation, sometime in the 90's I think. The England side under Hutton from around 1953 was pretty good, as was the late 60's early 70's side under Illingworth, although they never faced a formidable Saffer side of that time. I'd say that around the Packer era of 1977 onwards they were pretty good. Then came the WIndies domination from the early 80's to mid(ish) 90's, and then the Australians from the late 90's onwards.

I think my pal Normo Tebbs would have had a few suggestions for these slags.

It's sad that world cricket has gotten to this stage, but I've been watching this Indian side, and there's a horrible nagging thought at the back of my head wondering if we're going to see a load of allegations coming out after this series.

I think the main allegation you can make against this Indian side is that their major players have all got tooold at the same time. Tendulkar, Laxman & Dravid are the wrong side of 35,and Zaheer Khan, Sehwag, Dhoni, Harbhajan, Ghambir & Yuvraj are the wrong side of 30. Although IMO Yuvraj has never been test class. They'll all retire about the same time leaving a huge void for the Indian selectors to fill.

We are in our prime, India aren't. Plus they haven't coped with the conditions.
